Community Information

To me, my community is marked by lower income earners with a predominantly Hispanic and Black population, perhaps with some percentage of AAPI. As a result, the community feels marginalized. The types of jobs and the welfare allotted in the area point to a general sense of need.

When a freak storm struck in 2003, impacted areas did not receive the level of support they needed because no single representative was responsible for the gerrymandered whole. Rain and hail resulted in 100,00 people losing power as homes and schools flooded. I read about the event years later. When I asked community members why it was seldom mentioned, members replied that the neglect the community faced from the government fit a larger pattern, so, why remember? I believe we must expect more.
