My community is made up of people who go to Darul Wahid Masjid. The masjid/mosque provides a sense of communion for Bangladeshi Muslims in the area and helps to distribute food/clothing/religious services for all who are in the community.

My community is made up of Bangladeshi Muslim Americans, both first and second generation. Many of the first members of my community came to the South Jamaica area because COL was cheaper and others joined afterwards as the community grew and became established (through the development of the masjid).

Most of the first generation members of my community are taxi and rideshare drivers.

I would describe my community to be relatively diverse. There are many Desi’s, Blacks, and Hispanics with other minorities. Our community needs more police presence especially during religious observances and during holidays. Our community also needs better roads and more development. We need better access to groceries/supermarkets, pharmacies, and supply stores.
