The historical ties between Henderson and Transylvania have a particular resonance for people of color here. There are still many people living in the county who experienced segregated schooling. Most African American adults were bused to Henderson County for high school. The ensuing local effort to get Brevard schools integrated is of interest. There is still a strong link with the two counties; our community college is part of the Henderson campus.
