My community is comprised of Jews, South Asians and Asian Americans in Northern Jamaica Queens. There are numerous schools, two major shopping areas, a park, many places of worship and bussing is a major form of transportation.
My community has been living in the area for the past 40 years so there is a long history of the different demographic groups working together to address issues in the community.
There are two major shopping areas where people are employed but many people also work in other places around NYC and either drive or use public transportation. We have a major park in our community and there is major concern over upkeep of both the parks and general infrastructure. There are also many small businesses in my community that rely heavily on the local population to stay open.
The major areas of concern for my community revolve around infrastructure, crime, small business support, rights of religious groups, education, housing, healthcare and transportation.
