Community Information

transportation housing mental health education environment

My community are students who attend BYU and the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Public transportation is everywhere but it's underused because of a lack of convenience and a lack of education on how it can be used effectively. We are passionate about environment issues, especially since we spend most of the year covered in smoke and we have to stare at the eye-sore which is Utah Lake.

Most of my community have ancestors that have traveled a long ways to come to Utah in search of a better life, whether that be their parents who immigrated here or their great-great-great grandparents. The majority of folks around here are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or another denomination of Christianity. Many people attend or work for BYU and are thus passionate about life-long learning and service.

For the majority of the year, most residents are students and/or employed by BYU. Those who aren't are usually retired or have a longer commute to get to work outside of Provo.

My community needs to learn to use public transportation better. We need to help Utah Lake thrive again to help grow our economy and make Utah Valley a gem of the United States. Most people in my community struggle with the cost of housing and have opted to not buy a home because the price is so steep in comparison to the size and quality of the homes being sold. We largely don't want to live in condos and town homes, but that's all that seems to be getting built recently.
