My community is made of people who have lived in this same area for many years. It is not hard to find those who are related in one one way or another. Many individuals were born here, went to school here, and attended college here. And they are still an important part of our community. There are also those who moved away, only to return as they grew older. This place exemplifies the full meaning of home for many people who would not live any place else. We love our community and do not want it broken up by the Redistricting process.

Not far from this community is the site where Dr. Harvey Van Buren, the first African-American physician in Statesboro, opened his Van Buren Sanitarium on Elm Street in December 1918. There are also many large and small historic Black churches of various denominations close by. It is not hard to find that the majority of people in the community are faith-driven.

While the pay range differs for many in the community, where there are many jobs to be found. Right now there are more jobs than people who are willing to take them. That can be attributed to the low pay of service jobs that prevent people from having a livable wage that comes with healthcare. GSU is the largest employer in the area along with Walmart and Great Dane.

More training is needed so people will be better equipped to get better jobs. Also more services are needed for the aging population that has invested so much of their energy and resources in the community. We want to keep our community in the same district because we are now gaining momentum in addressing our shared policy concerns, and we do not want that to be destroyed. We want to stay together and work with nearby communities to make things better for all concerned.
