After completing my interviews, I found that my community is defined by religious services on the sabbath. Many community members gather at the local synagogue on Friday nights and Saturday mornings to socialize and pray. Synagogue is often a place where members congregate and discuss political beliefs as well.

A historical event that defines my community is the Holocaust. When asked “What is an historical event our community relates to, and why?”, all three people I interviewed immediately responded “Holocaust”. All three interviewers explained how they are descendants of Holocaust survivors and know that many fellow community members are descendants of holocaust survivors as well.

I found a common economic interests in my community is working jobs that make enough money to send children to private schools and maintain a religious Jewish lifestyle, which can be relatively expensive. All three people I interviewed explained their biggest expenses are sending their children to private Jewish schools. Two people I interviewed have four children and both told me they were paying upwards of $120,000 each year to educate their children. The third person I interviewed told me she receives financial aid from a Jewish private school that her child attends but it is still her largest expense. My community believes it is important to send their children to Jewish private schools

In recent times some concerns my community has is safety and security. My local synagogue pays an extra fee to a security company so members can feel safe when attending synagogue. In fact, when asked “What are some security concerns you have in our community?” everyone answered anti-semitism. One interviewer explained how anti-Semitic attacks have gone up tremendously in the United States. She explained how just a couple of months ago there was a hostage situation at a synagogue in Texas. Another participant mentioned that last year there was a crazy man walking up and down her block screaming anti-Semitic tropes while wearing a Hitler shirt.
