Community Information

LGBT+ education environment suburban affordable

My community shops at the Maceys at 5600 S 900 E or the Smith's at 4500 S 900 E. We go to the Murray Costco. For routine healthcare, we go to Cottonwood Medical Center; for emergencies, we go to IMC. We use both the Murray Library and the Holladay Library. We visit Murray Park and parks in Holladay and Cottonwood. Our schools are Spring Lane Elementary and Bonneville Junior High in Granite School District. We regularly donate household items and clothing to Big Brothers Big Sisters in Holladay. We will sometimes shop in Sugarhouse but prefer the Fort Union area for convenience.

My community is composed of young families all the way to elderly individuals living on a fixed income. We live in a HOA community with apartments, townhomes, and attached homes. This is a predominantly white neighborhood but there are many LGBTQIA residents and greater political and religious diversity than in many neighborhoods. English is the dominant language, though there are several families of international origin.

My community values sustainability. We believe public investments should be made with long term costs and benefits in mind. We feel that open spaces, water, and air are our most valuable assets and must be conserved and protected against aggressive development or recreational interests.

Our current district has been engineered to dilute the community-minded interests of my community. We believe in taxation for services and take pride in participating in government and programs for the social good. Our children depend on the adults to create a local political community and environment that will support their health, education, and growth through responsible stewardship of government and resources.
