Community Information

housing Indigenous homelessness environment Latinx

My neighborhood has regular grocery stores (Albertsons, La Bonita), organic options are quite a drive away, wholesale options are about a 10 minute drive from me. There are mostly public k-12 schools in my area, there are a few non-public schools that I notice as well. There aren't any higher education locations in my community. I have a smaller library down the street from me. There are quite a few parks within my community. There's also quite a few places of worship in my neighborhood. There are two urgent care's near my home and the nearest hospital is a bit of a drive from me. I have noticed a lot of bus stops where I live. I've seen a few local nonprofits(Salvation Army) nearby.

I live in an area that's majority Christian, Catholic, or Mormon(there is one Buddhist Temple). My neighbors are a mix of Black, Hispanic, White. The languages spoken are English and Spanish. I would say the average age of my neighbors is mid-40's, but it's mostly families. My neighborhood is about 30 years old. The cultural bonds of my community have Hispanic roots.

I have noticed that many of my neighbors work for local government and the service industry. About 1/3 of my neighbors are retired. The empty lots nearby are full of trash. I do notice quite a few homeless folks in my neighborhood, not as much as other areas of the city. I do have concerns about water conservation within my community. I also have concerns about wildlife as well, I have seen quite a bit of wildlife and I worry if it's a sign we're expanding too fast and too much into their natural environment.

I would like to especially highlight water conservation, we live in a desert and need to be mindful about the environment more. I would like to see more cultural centers and more resources for cultural groups to thrive.
