Community Information

transportation housing healthcare diversity education

My community is made up of diverse cultures and ethnic groups most especially Hispanics and Latin American who make up the largest population. There are several buses 🚌 that ply the community (BX 35, BX 25, BX 17, BX 19 etc), we also have the 2, and 5 🚊 trains. Most of the neighborhood children attend Phipps Neighborhood Community School, Urban Community School X463. Montefiore and Bronx Care Hospitals caters for the health needs of the community and there is also have a community library. The people are religious, hence the community is littered with churches such as Mother Walls AME Zion Church, Community Church of Christ, Christian Church Christ The King, St Peter's Pentecostal etc.

My community is located within the Longwood section of the Bronx. The community is made up of majority Hispanics, African Americans and other minority groups. There are several several parks and gardens around and the most notable is the Crotona Park. During summer, the park host different activities especially picnics and cultural activities. In the year 2022, the Ghanaian community hosted their Independence Anniversary celebration. Shatta Wale and Wiyaala, musicians from Ghana performed during the celebration. Other minority groups such as Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti and others host cultural events.

My community is made up of mostly working class people. Most of whom work in Downtown Manhattan and other parts of the Bronx. Close to my community is the neighborhood, Hunts Point, which houses several warehouses in the Bronx.

Recently my community was redistricted and it is now part of New York Congressional District 15. Also the community is becoming gentrified.
