My community is made up of a diverse set of people with a strong Latinx and Italian American presence. Neighborhood residents of all backgrounds enjoy gathering in public park and use the local library. Our Saviour’s Lutheran Churched has served as a critical place for the neighborhood to gather. It currently houses the community soup kitchen, anti-displacement, work safety and other organizations and services.
My community is a gateway community that has seen skyrocketing rents and home prices, which has driven displacement to massive levels. Many people in the neighborhood practice Catholicism and identify as Christians. We have a lot of younger professionals that have moved into the neighborhood. Their has always been a strong immigrant presence in the neighborhood and many immigrants in the neighborhood lack status which puts many families in a difficult place.
My community has many people working in restaurant and hospitality. Relying on public transportation to get them to and from work. It is also next to the airport which brings air quality problems to the neighborhood.
Our community is currently in one district and it would be great to keep the community that way.
