Community Information

There is a Christ's Church of the Valley (CCV) campus a few blocks away from my home. I attended church here with my kids and have seen other neighbors there.Several schools are within walking distance, including Corona del Sol High School and Kyrene de la Mirada Middle School. Bus service was established along Ray Rd a couple of years ago and has made it easier for my kids and others to travel to school and work.

I live in a gated community with roughly 25 homes. Several of the homes were built by their residents 20-25 years ago. The residents are primarily white, and when I first moved here in 2016, there were many elderly. Some of their children have taken over their homes, or others have sold their homes to relocate into smaller ones.In 2021 most residents are around middle age, and several (including myself) have children attending college and entering the workforce. The nearby church and schools are other places where people gather and form cultural bonds.

A lot of residents are in the upper middle-class tax bracket. There is a defunct Intel factory nearby where some still work. There are also a lot of retirees who live in the area. Many local stores, such as Fry's Marketplace, EOS Fitness, etc., employ people of all ages and backgrounds. There is a library within walking distance where a lot of kids hang out after school. My neighborhood features several parks and artificial lakes.

My neighborhood and the surrounding community are predominantly white and right-leaning, making it difficult to relate to my neighbors at times. My neighbors are good to talk about politics and their views, but I have not seen much from them in community activism. If they do give time or money to other organizations, they aren't vocal about it.I would like to see more connectivity between my neighbors and surrounding communities when it comes to redistricting.
