Community Information

My community is often found socializing in shops, cafes, and recreational areas such as parks. The children usually gather in schools, libraries, and parks. The elderly are often found in parks on days when the weather is nice. There are many public transportation options in the community, both trains, and buses that take people from Ridgewood/Glendale to various parts of Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. There are also many healthcare services in the area as well. Most of these are within walking access and are easy to access.

My community is mostly made up of Europeans from Italy, Poland, Russia, and Albania, but there is also a Latino population well. Languages from all these countries are commonly spoken here. All of these people from different countries often interact with one another and use the same institutions. They go to the same shops, supermarkets, healthcare places, and use the same public transportation. There is also a mix of different religions in the area such as Catholic, Jewish, and Muslim.

My community does not have a great employment rate. The unemployment rate sits at 8% which is twice the national average. Many residents have to take a car or public transportation to work because there are not a lot of good-paying jobs available. The jobs that residents do have are not high-paying ones. The median average income of the area is about $51,000 which is below the national median average.

Politicians should know that my community is made up of individuals who speak different languages, use public transportation, gather in parks and shops to socialize, and have jobs that do not pay too well. My community needs to give more attention to public transportation services and employment opportunities. Making sure my community is within the same district is a concern of mine.
