Hillside is filled with small businesses as well as large fast food corporations. It is also a hub of transportation featuring: F train, Grand Central Parkway, Clearview Expressway, Q1, Q43, Q36, etc. Along the avenue there is also plenty of schools both public and private. For example, The Mary Louis Academy. Hillside is also home to Creedmoor Psychiatric Center.
Hillside is incredibly diverse with a majority being the Asian population, specifically South Asia. They are followed by the Hispanic Community as well as the African American Community. More than half of Hillside is Foreign born. The majority from South Central Asia along with a good amount from South America as well.
Hillside's economy rests on the businesses that line its streets. However there are too many fast food places and not enough access to fresh groceries.
Safety is a huge concern in the community. The area around the 179th street station is filled with liquor stores and bars making it an unsafe area after dark. Creedmoor Psychiatric Center is also a concern since the outpatient services there are underfunded and many residents aren't getting the help they need.
