Community Information

healthcare voting rights elderly environment affordable

My rural community is made of many people whose family histories can go back 3 to 5 generations. They have raised their own children here and some have done the same with grandchildren. In the past, the now quiet community was very active with many children visiting from house to house and parents sharing an occasional meal. Today we have many senior citizens and a few families with school age children. Although the pandemic is limiting our interaction with each other, our socializing still centers around family. And our home base continues to be faith oriented as we participate with all the local churches in one way or another. I can truthfully say this is a good community and we love it.

Culturally we are proud of the many churches in our immediate area that share a history of 150 years plus of being in service to our community. Many of which started by having service beneath a tree. And many of the present members are descendants of the original founders.

We live along the very active state highway 17. The speed of the passing cargo haulers is one that does not respect our community. There is also the noise and air pollution that they create. Added to that is the presence of the corporation farmers that constantly add poisons and fertilizers to our soil that we feel is polluting our well water. For fear of the water being contaminated, the majority of our residents only drink bottled water.

Our community is concerned about the health of our well water system. We are afraid of the poisons that the farmers uses to enhance the growth of their crops. We also want and need a lowered speed limit established that is accompanied by signs. Most of all we do not want our community divided in the Redistricting process. We want to be able to vote leaders of our choice into office who reflect our community's values.
