HIST 217 Week 13 Community of Interest Part 5 Submissions
Danger: REPORT May 10, 2021
Community Activities and Services
My Community of Interest Project is about how in my area we pay more in water/sewerage then other areas in my town and why. My area in on South Nevada Street, in Yerington Nevada, and it is in town mostly consists of older homes. William Lee homesteaded here and built from in town. The out skirts of Yerington have newer houses, these houses where built when the Anaconda Mine was active in 1918, more are being built because the active mine "Pumpkin Hollow".
Community Needs and Concerns
We pay more in water/sewerage because the pipes in town burst due to the fact they are so old. The pipes are being replaced and we are paying for the new pipping and labor to install. I learned that after the job is done we will still be paying the same amount. My Community concern is that our bill be lowered when the job is done and also, if these new pipes are at any danger to us.

Community Needs and Concerns
the reason my area pays more in water/sewerage is because the pipes where so old they broke. They are being replaced know and we are paying for the new pipes and the labor. I learned that when the job is done we will still be paying the same price. My Community concern is that when they are done with putting in the newer pipes if they could lower the bill to what other parts of Yerington are paying. Also, if these new pipes will be causing anybody any harm in any way.

Northeast Ranchos
HIST 217 Week 13 Community of Interest Part 5 Submissions
Danger: REPORT May 7, 2021
Community Activities and Services
The area has an abundance of parks and open space, despite its small size, and is well served by municipal services, with a fire station and the Scarselli elementary school within its bounds.
Economic or Environmental Interests
This community is generally less affluent than its neighbors, and was built decades earlier than surrounding developments. The area relys upon groundwater wells, and water rights remain competitive for new development.
Community Needs and Concerns
The area has extremely outdated urban planning, street and curb design are not up to modern standards, especially given the presence of children in the area at parks and schools.

Community Needs and Concerns
Hopefully there can be an increase in financial help to provide better homes that are not as run down for the children living in low income households.

The Rural Fault Community at Kings Canyon
HIST 217 Week 13 Community of Interest Part 5 Submissions
Danger: REPORT May 3, 2021
Economic or Environmental Interests
The community is located right on top of a grouping of fault lines. Some of the fault lines actually cut through some of the community's structures. This poses a need for some kind of increased service to the area in the event of an earthquake due to damage related to ground rupture; Also known as displacement. Please note that western Nevada has a very high seismic danger.
Community Needs and Concerns
This community lies far out from the center of the city and relies on such utilities as wells and septic. As being rural, the community has a shared policy concern about the development of the nearby rural area. The community has interest in preserving their “ruralness” by limiting development in the relative area. This includes the possible “Vintage at Kings Canyon” project in the nearby former Anderson Ranch area.

HIST 217 Week 13 Community of Interest Part 5 Submissions
Danger: REPORT May 2, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
The community has always been a very popular area for those in the city to come to. Dating back to the start of the city this is where it all began and then branched out from this focal point. In present day many of those who come to this area are those looking to have fun and enjoy the amenities this area has to offer.
Community Activities and Services
The community I have chosen has services and activities such as casinos, bars, restaurants, museums, city events, and shops.
Economic or Environmental Interests
It has becoming a very popular area to live and be in due to the culture of events and night life attractions. Unfortunately this area has a high crime.
Community Needs and Concerns
The need for this community is lowering the crime rate.

Concerns for Virginia City Mines
HIST 217 Week 13 Community of Interest Part 5 Submissions
Danger: REPORT May 2, 2021
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is a boomtown. There are many open mines that produce risk for not only residents and visitors but also the wildlife. Some of the mines are noticed and blocked off, but others are still holes in the ground that can be unnoticed until it's too late. The dangerous toxins that come from the mines kill poeple and animals.

Danger: REPORT May 2, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
William Lee homesteaded in Yerington and built his boarding house in town for travelers to stay at. He convinced many of his friends to move and build their businesses there as well. The houses in town are older then the houses on the out skirts which where built between 1918, when the Anaconda Mine opened up, and most recent dates. The piping in town is being replaced because they are much older and that is why we pay more in water/sewage. Once the job is done they will not be lowering the bill
Community Activities and Services
My community is on Nevada Street in a town named Yerington Nevada. My area is in town, close to restaurants, and the school. Also, the outskirts of Yerington which consists of newer homes. My project is about how much my area in Yerington Nevada pay more in water/sewage then the out skirts of town.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community doesn’t want to be paying more in water/sewage once the piping is all finished.

Fernley's Old Town Roads
HIST 217 Week 13 Community of Interest Part 5 Submissions
Danger: REPORT May 1, 2021
Community Needs and Concerns
Currently, Fernley's roads suffer from large cracks, potholes, unevenness, and bumpy texture. These damages make it difficult to drive when driving through the city. Fernley's roads haven't been repaved since 1993. In other words, 28 years have gone by since the roads were last worked on. That's almost 3 decades of driving through the same old worn-down roads. Keep in mind that Fernley's population will continue to grow, causing more wear and damages to its roads.

Smith Valley Agricultual Community
HIST 217 Week 13 Community of Interest Part 5 Submissions
Danger: REPORT April 30, 2021
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is an agricultural-based community so water rights is a big deal. The way that water rights have always worked is that whenever you got your water rights was how much water you got and when you can start using them. I think that this should be changed because for one, this seems like an outdated system. And two, there are people who get their water rights first and then don't use them all or don't have enough. They should be displaced and given out for how much you need/available.

Community Activities and Services
My community is made of the people that attend Oasis Academy and go to the Fallon Youth Club after school program. Also many children walk to the Venturacci Park and Gym nearby. These places allow a place for children to go when their parents are working. It also allows them a place to make new friends in a safe and supervised environment close to their homes.
