Fallon NV
Make it Work Nevada
Danger: REPORT Nov. 12, 2021
Population: 7036
agriculture infrastructure housing environment corruption
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community has a large native population with a reservation next to it. There has always been contention between the native people and the city that resides on their ancestral land.
Community Activities and Services
Most people meet up at bars, adult/youth sporting events, and Walmart. There are a lot of shops and stores for a small town. There are 5 elementary schools, a middle school, a high school, and a community college. there is one library and 3 parks for the community to use. there is a senior transport program called CART and there is a urgent care and a tribal clinic as well as a hospital. There are nonprofits for the animal shelters.
Economic or Environmental Interests
People either work on farms, factories outside of Fallon at USA Parkway, or in the service industry. We have a trash and polluted water issue. The city dump has recently burned down and there is no place for the city's trash to go. The water supply in my community is becoming slimy and smells like pool water.
Community Needs and Concerns
The city is trying to close the library and we cannot lose that resource. We have a huge need for affordable living. The housing crisis is causing rent to sky rocket to prices comparable to cities like Reno and Las Vegas. Recreational weed should be more accessible for those who would like it. The animal shelter needs a new well. Land Back!

Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe
Make it Work Nevada
Danger: REPORT Nov. 11, 2021
Population: 15486
mining historical Indigenous environment water
Cultural or Historical Interests
I live on the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Reservation. The city of Fallon is originally Paiute land.
Community Activities and Services
I shop at Walmart in Fallon, NV. It is not on the reservation. There is a Headstart program on the reservation. Other schools are in town (Fallon, NV). There is a library at the Cultural Center on the reservation. The college is in town. There are several playgrounds on the reservation and one Christian Church. There is a transit bus for the reservation and a tribal clinic. There is a hospital in town (non tribal).
Economic or Environmental Interests
People mostly work for the Naval base. There are farmers in Fallon that grow alfalfa and other things. There is an issue with the poisoned water table and the (tribal) community fights against mining and the damage it does to the land and water. There is a job shortage for work in town and on the reservation.
Community Needs and Concerns
Politicians and map drawers need to be aware of sacred sites and to protect them. The reservation needs a daycare. There needs to be more access to mental health services. Community activities are greatly needed. All these lands are sacred. The land is our cultural identity.

Mountains Edge
Make it Work Nevada
Danger: REPORT Sept. 29, 2021
Population: 22909
parks housing diversity suburban high income
Cultural or Historical Interests
We haven't been able to meet many of our neighbors, but the ones we have met are Caucasian and Hispanic. Our neighbors are mostly families. The neighborhood in general is Caucasian. The neighborhood was built around 2007, so it is fairly new. I have noticed quite a few neighbors who are Mormon. We aren't near any districts, that I know of. I don't know of any cultural events that happen in my neighborhood. We have attended a couple of cultural events in LV downtown for the Native community, but most of the Native cultural events we attend are in Northern NV. I have noticed a few other Native American families within my neighborhood.
Community Activities and Services
In my area, there's a wide variety of stores (chain supermarkets, organic) I'm unsure if there are low cost options but there aren't any wholesale or cultural supermarket options nearby. The public school options are very nice & new, there are charter schools within my community but the charter school we prefer is farther away. I haven't been able to notice if we're near any institutions of higher education. There's a lot of well kept & beautiful parks close by. The parks have a wide variety of amenities. We travel to Northern NV for our spiritual practices, we haven't found that community yet. I'm unsure about public transit. There's hospitals nearby, we use LV Paiute & RSIC clinics.
Economic or Environmental Interests
I haven't met enough of my neighbors to say on average what industry most of them are employed with but those I met are Construction, Real Estate, Finance. There aren't any homeless folks in my neighborhood. I live in a well-kept gated community with patrolling security and an HOA. The roads are good quality since it's a newer area. There isn't any illegal dumping in the empty lots nearby. Water conservation is a concern of mine, most folks don't have grass, but they look to have drip water systems. The local businesses don't have any large leaks. There have been issues with local infrastructure and flooding. We don't have any wildlife coming into our neighborhood, except scorpions.
Community Needs and Concerns
We live in a very typical suburb. There is a lot of ethnic diversity when I visit my children's school. Even though it's a well-to-do community there is diversity. I recently moved to this community so I can't speak on the immediate needs.

The Cost of Upgrades
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 22, 2021
Community Activities and Services
Community of Interest is why in town pay more in water/sewerage than the out skirts of Yerington. Area is on South Nevada Street, Yerington Nevada, which consists of older homes (1950-1970s), because William Lee homesteaded here and built from in town out. Also, Anaconda Mine which started in the 1950s. Out skirt homes are newer because of the current mine, Pumpkin Hollow.
Community Needs and Concerns
We pay more in water/sewerage because the pipes where so old they burst. Pipes are being replaced and we are paying more now to help pay the costs for it all. I interviewed the City and found out when the job is done they will not be lowering our prices. My community needs and concerns is they lower the bill when the job is done , and am wondering if these new pipes will cause us any harm?

B Street Homes for Children in Poverty
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 22, 2021
Economic or Environmental Interests
The housing behind 7-11 began being built in 1978 which puts those houses being around 43 years old. 875 children out of the 3739 individuals live in this block group. City of Fernley allocates $456,000 for housing and community development per year which breaks down to $21.23 per resident. Children are living in rundown, old homes, without the proper funding or resources available to provide safe and adequate homes to live in.
Community Needs and Concerns
Hopefully there can be an increase in financial help to provide better homes that are not as run down for the children living in low income households. Perhaps a volunteer community resource group can help ensure that neighborhoods are clean, and house maintenance can be kept up to a safe standard for all of the children residing in the neighborhood.

The Rural Fault Community at Kings Canyon
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 22, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
This community is the result of population growth over time in Nevada, and subsequently Carson City. With the increase in population, the need for more accommodations such as housing arises. Thus the community came to be. The age of housing in the community varies due to this. This relates to the interests outlined in the Environmental category. Because of the varied age, there is varied utility line age, which needs an update due to the probability of earthquakes.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The community is located right on top of some fault lines. Some of the fault lines actually cut through some of the community's structures. This poses a need for some kind of increased service to the area in the event of an earthquake due to damage related to ground rupture; Also known as displacement. Please note that western Nevada has a very high seismic danger.
Community Needs and Concerns
This community has a shared policy concern about the development of the nearby rural area. The community has interest in preserving their “ruralness” by limiting development in the relative area. This includes the possible “Vintage at Kings Canyon” project in the nearby former Anderson Ranch area.

The Lack of Teachers in MCHS
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 21, 2021
Community Activities and Services
Teachers in Mineral County High School do not stay as long as teachers. When talking to a couple of people who graduated from the '90s, they explained that they had clubs, different kinds of sports, school activities, and their teachers stayed there longer than a year. Now teachers do not have the motivation to clubs, do a new sport, and they do not care for students as they used to.
Community Needs and Concerns
Mineral County High School gets students from Mina, Babbit, Schurz, Walker Lake, and Hawthorne. Many teachers working in MCSD do not stay for a long time, which affects students' education. Figuring out why teachers do not stay long, the community can help figure out how to help keep teachers. Keeping teachers can get start clubs, different sports, and activities, which can be very beneficial to the student in many ways. Students might actually want to go to school.

Downtown Reno Community
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 21, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
The community has always been a very popular area for those in the city to come to. Unfortunately, downtown Reno has always had a high violent crime rate. Based on research and information I found there has always been a high amount of violent crime history dating back to the 1900's. A Reno Gazette Journal titled The Stories Behind Northern Nevada's Notorious Crimes and Disasters listed in chronological order many incidents in Nevada and mainly all of Reno’s worst crimes have all taken place in
Community Activities and Services
The community I have chosen has services and activities such as bars ,casinos, city events, restaurants, museums, and shops.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The economic interests are that it is a highly trafficked and popular area due to the culture of events, businesses and nightlife attractions. Unfortunately this area has a high crime rate.
Community Needs and Concerns
The community of downtown Reno needs the rate of violent crime to lower.

Gardnerville Ranchos Multi-Family Home Community
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 21, 2021
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of lower-income families and individuals. We live in duplexes, not houses, within the Gardnerville Ranchos; although there are a few homes right in the middle of one side of my community. Many of us are single parents and/or retired seniors living on a fixed income. Others are young families with young children. The Gardnerville Ranchos are part of the whole of Gardnerville and have easy access to all the same services that they have.
Community Needs and Concerns
In my opinion, there are three needs for this community. 1) Better street lighting. The street lights are too far apart. 2) They need slower speed limits through here like they do in the older part of Minden. There are a lot of little children playing around here, learning to ride bikes, etc. 3) Additionally, for the whole of the Ranchos, there is no one good, clear bike path for teens to ride their bikes out of here, except on the way-south side of the Ranchos.

Fernley's worn out roads
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 20, 2021
Community Needs and Concerns
Currently, Fernley's roads suffer from large cracks, potholes, unevenness, and bumpy texture. These damages make it difficult to drive when driving through the city. Fernley's roads haven't been repaved since 1993. In other words, 28 years have gone by since the roads were last worked on. That's almost 3 decades of driving through the same old worn-down roads. Keep in mind that Fernley's population will continue to grow, causing more wear and damages to its roads.

Virginia City Mining Concerns
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 20, 2021
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is a boomtown. There are many open mines that produce risk for not only residents and visitors but also the wildlife. Some of the mines are noticed and blocked off, but others are still holes in the ground that can be unnoticed until it's too late. The dangerous toxins that come from the mines kill people and animals.
Community Needs and Concerns
This community needs safety precautions put in place for existing and new mines that are created. This will protect not only the residents but also visitors. Mining has been happening in this town since 1859 meaning there are mines not even accounted for the need to be.

North Carson Street Mobile Home Community
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 20, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community consists primarily of White people however there is a growing population of Hispanics, some of which have immigrated here. It takes time to assimilate so the language and educational barriers limit the types of work available for people of this community. There is also a lack of understanding of culture across races or even of their own.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The people of this community moved here because it was affordable housing. However between the quality of work available to them and the increasing price of housing, it is difficult for them to save money or move out of this community.
Community Needs and Concerns
This communities' issues are based primarily on lack of education and financial stability. Outreach programs regarding these would benefit this community.

Virginia City Sinkholes
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 19, 2021
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community of interest is Virginia City and Gold Hill. Every so often, sinkholes threaten buildings and people's lives in the Virginia City area. Using rock bolts along with other precautions might delay the collapse of a mine and could provide additional support for the weakening mines interior in at-risk of collapse mines. In the past, the area's main industry was mining, so today, countless abandoned mines lie underground, many of which are unmapped making them deadly inside and out.
Community Needs and Concerns
Unchecked mines could collapse and cause a sinkhole, dragging in everything around its perimeter including buildings, roads, and possibly people. Mines in this community have become sinkholes in the past and have even recurred, further precautions should be considered to prevent damage to the historic area and its residents. Along with sinkholes open mine entrances can be too big of a temptation so boarding up entrances with sturdy materials should also be a priority for this community.

Future Generation
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 19, 2021
Community Activities and Services
My community is made of the people that attend Oasis Academy and go to the Fallon Youth Club after school program. Also many children walk to the Venturacci Park and Gym nearby. These places allow a place for children to go when their parents are working. It also allows them a place to make new friends in a safe and supervised environment close to their homes.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is a newer, growing Block Group, consisting of people in their 20s to 50s and their children, or soon to have children. As Nevada continues to grow property will continue to be used for more housing, and that is what this area is going through right now. The proximity to this community is larger, because if consists of services that are needed for the community now and in coming years like a preschool, Oasis Academy, which is K-12, and a Youth Club for after school.

Smith Valley Water Rights
Vote Nevada
Danger: REPORT May 19, 2021
Community Needs and Concerns
The way that water rights have always worked is that whenever you got your water rights was how much water you got and when you can start using them. I think that this should be changed because, for one, this seems like an outdated system. And two, there are people who get their water rights first and then don't use them all or don't have enough. They should be displaced and given out for how much you need/available or people who either have too much/little could buy/sell/lease them out.
