Ogden City
Utah Community Maps
Danger: REPORT Oct. 11, 2021
Population: 50368
transportation renewable resources education environment affordable
Cultural or Historical Interests
Ogden has a long history of community and a strong local economy. We care about everyone in our community, including racial minorities, immigrants, our artists, and everyone who wants to call Ogden home. We deserve to have our voices united. We should not have our voices broken up with rural areas around Ogden. They deserve their own voice, and the city if Ogden deserves it's own unhindered voice. Especially that much of Ogden is more liberal than rural areas, when Ogden is broken up into chunks, it gives the power to rural voices, and takes it away from a whole city that wants to see change. Ogden should not be split into multiple districts. We deserve our own district.
Community Activities and Services
Our community is made of everyone and anyone who loves the area. We've got one of the most diverse populations in Utah and we love it and want everyone's voice to be heard. Ogden city has a strong community center near 25th street with a beautiful arts community. We have active ability for the community to come together, and there are always events happening to get the community together. We love our parks, and natural resources. We love our community gardens and public spaces. We want to preserve and appreciate our rivers, mountains, and our native plants and animals. We want Ogden to be a safe haven for nature and we want Ogden to continue to move towards being a beautiful city.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community utilizes the water from Pineview and we care deeply about the pollution affecting our water supply. We also care about the management of our water and ensuring that it is utilized in a sustainable way for residents and for the ecosystems that depend on the water (i.e. rivers, lakes, etc). We also care about the air quality in our region because we all have to breath the same polluted air. Our lung cancer rates among non-smokers is higher than the national average because of our geography. We care about running our region better than than the nation in regards to air quality because we care about having clean, healthy air for us and our children to breath.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community cares about having a voice in our democratic system. Ogden has historically been divided into districts that expand far outside into rural communities. This weakens out voice and effectively gives Ogden no ability to express it's desires in a meaningful way. We are a strong community and we deserve to have a strong voice over our area. Rural areas deserve their own vote, and Ogden deserves it's ability to function as a community in regards to redistricting. Ogden deserves to be it's own district to express the desires of our community as a whole. We know our neighbors and love our community and we know what is best for Ogden.

Community Activities and Services
My community is located West of 700 East in between Liberty Park and 400 S in Salt Lake City, UT.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is located south of North Salt Lake (a heavily pollutant industrial area). We have a fairly large homeless population and there is a lot of tension between police, community organizers, and community members about the issue. Everyone in my community wants to help individuals experiencing homelessness to get off the street. Individuals experiencing homelessness tend to congregate in our area of town and we do not have enough homeless shelters or resources to adequately care for them all.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community needs more resources for individuals experiencing homelessness. My community needs more affordable housing and transportation.

Danger: REPORT Oct. 7, 2021
Population: 8434
LGBT+ renewable resources housing education environment
Cultural or Historical Interests
We are a predominantly Mormon valley but there are a wide representation of denominations around the Utah Valley area. Our age group is definitely lower with the majority of population in the area being made up of college students. We are expanding in Hispanic numbers and deserve representation in that area.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of a wide variety of age groups. This is a college town and that means there is a diverse group of college age students living in areas around both Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. There is also a diverse and family oriented group of individuals in Utah Valley. Both universities draw plenty of visitors to their facilities with both art and sports performances occurring regularly throughout the year. There are numerous apartment complexes including The Green, University Towers, University Gateway, and Parkway Lofts. A lot of these areas are accessible via UTA public transportation but there is very little in the way of parks and open nature spaces.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We are located near Utah Lake and the massive plans to introduce human projects into the lake to supposedly restore it to a former glory raises concerns to me. It's one of the biggest fresh bodies of water this side of the Mississippi and deserves to be preserved rather than meddled with. In addition, the climate change of recent decades has had an impact on weather patterns in Orem and there needs to be more action to bring attention and fix these issues.

Young Bountiful Families
Utah Community Maps
Danger: REPORT Oct. 6, 2021
Population: 20359
transportation housing diversity education environment
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community represents an increasingly diversified demographic. Young families are moving into older post-war, mid-century homes, older folks who have lived in the same homes for decades, and newer builds where more established people areliving. It is also increasingly politically diverse, our neighborhood had signs for both presidential candidates this last year. You can find pride flags and blue stripe flags on the same street.
Community Activities and Services
My community uses the libraries, Davis Co. rec center, hiking and biking mountain trails, city parks, city splash pad, farmer's market, Friday food trucks, summer parades, shopping and eating on main street, and places of worship.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My neighborhood is full of young working professionals, and the retired. Many of the young people work for companies outside of Bountiful, many in Salt Lake or further south. In general, I think the community values access to nature and the mountains. Access to ski resorts, bike trails, lakes, etc. are all valuable.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is growing quickly and the city of Bountiful is almost all out of empty land. The city will become denser in the future, and so we will need better options for transit, smart zoning practices, and maintaining a sense of community. Politically, Bountiful, and the southern end of Davis Co., in general, is increasingly purple. The young families buying older homes are more progressive and liberal than the older, more established people.

Population: 137154

Cultural or Historical Interests
Historic downtown Provo, BYU campus, potential for new historical markers to women and Native peoples, as well as newer immigrants. Provo city is 19% Latino/Hispanic, the same as the United States, and many neighborhoods are over 40% Latina/o, but often seem erased in the general discussion of our community.
Community Activities and Services
Our family lives in north central Provo near the campus of BYU. We enjoy the access to the Provo city library, transit, recreation, university fine arts and sports, the downtown dining, arts, and festival scene, and drive far less than we did when we lived in a similar college town area in New Jersey. My wife has served on the board of a shelter for women and children and I have been involved in presenting to the Provo City Council, Provo Police, and others on issues of diversity and inclusion.
Economic or Environmental Interests
This is a college town anchored by BYU as well as nearby UVU in Orem, the largest university in the state as far as I know. There are also a number of large companies like Qualtrics, Ancestry.com, and NuSkin, among many others.
Community Needs and Concerns
As a college town, there is sometimes an unspoken assumption that the voices of students should not matter, or at least matter less, but many live here far more than 4-6 years, often putting down roots to work in the tech sector or stay for further graduate study, etc. I think it is vital that Provo and Orem remain in the same district as a cohesive community of interest in terms of this college town metro area.

Community Needs and Concerns
Must have clean environment, otherwise I'm leaving my husband (non-portable job) and moving my children out of here to Michigan or Vermont. Primarily, the air quality is my biggest concern, but I'm not crazy about the transportation infrastructure around here. Entirely too much traffic in neighborhoods, not enough trees and green areas interspersed. Also, not enough shopping/services interspersed in neighborhoods. Cultural or Historical Interests
We support cultural organizations though a community supported ZAP tax in Salt Lake County. The annual Living Traditions festival celebrates cultural diversity. A local business, Rancho Market, caters to Latino and Middle Eastern shoppers. I belong to the First Unitarian Church, a religious community that largely draws its congregation from neighborhoods near the University of Utah.
Community Activities and Services
My community lives in urban Salt Lake City and has common interests with other SLC neighborhoods. I ride UTA and need good transit connections to connect tothe Universit of Utah, Downtown and the airport. We have chronic problems with air pollution, and an urgent need to protect the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. We shop downtown and often send our kids to schools in the Salt Lake School District, Salt Lake Community College, the U of U or Westminster College.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Nearby outdoor recreation is in the Wastach mountains and foothills, Bonneville Shoreline Trail, Jordan River Trail and public parks. There is an urgent need to protect the Great Salt Lake ecosystem from pollution and developemnt. We have chronic problems with air pollution that will be made worse by irresponsible developement of an "inland port" in the NW of Salt Lake City. Drought, heatwaves and wildfires are affecting quality of life.
Community Needs and Concerns
We need a good transit network to connect the University of Utah, downtown, airport and surrounding neighborhoods. Further development of the inland port needs to be stopped to avoid air pollution, traffic congestion and harm to the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. While politicians boast about the great economy, population growth is rapidly making Salt Lake City unlivable-- housing costs exceed incomes, traffic is getting impossibly bad, poor air quality is impacting public health, and outdoor spaces that used to make Salt Lake City nice are overcrowded and becoming overdevloped by ski areas and such. SLCounty needs its own congressman instead of being split up into urban/rural slices.

We need a more diverse workforce and affordable housing for them to live in. We need to protect what makes our town special, beautiful, and a good place to raise a family, while inviting innovative new private businesses and public sector jobs to establish themselves here. My community is composed of young families all the way to elderly individuals living on a fixed income. We live in a HOA community with apartments, townhomes, and attached homes. This is a predominantly white neighborhood but there are many LGBTQIA residents and greater political and religious diversity than in many neighborhoods. English is the dominant language, though there are several families of international origin.
Community Activities and Services
My community shops at the Maceys at 5600 S 900 E or the Smith's at 4500 S 900 E. We go to the Murray Costco. For routine healthcare, we go to Cottonwood Medical Center; for emergencies, we go to IMC. We use both the Murray Library and the Holladay Library. We visit Murray Park and parks in Holladay and Cottonwood. Our schools are Spring Lane Elementary and Bonneville Junior High in Granite School District. We regularly donate household items and clothing to Big Brothers Big Sisters in Holladay. We will sometimes shop in Sugarhouse but prefer the Fort Union area for convenience.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community values sustainability. We believe public investments should be made with long term costs and benefits in mind. We feel that open spaces, water, and air are our most valuable assets and must be conserved and protected against aggressive development or recreational interests.
Community Needs and Concerns
Our current district has been engineered to dilute the community-minded interests of my community. We believe in taxation for services and take pride in participating in government and programs for the social good. Our children depend on the adults to create a local political community and environment that will support their health, education, and growth through responsible stewardship of government and resources.

Cultural or Historical Interests
My smaller community is a portion of Murray that was annexed from unincorporated county a decade or so ago. It has a somewhat different set of municipal services than the main portion of Murray. From a bit wider perspective, there is a portion of Murray that is currently in HD 46--a district that is primarily comprised of Cottonwood Heights. Our needs are more aligned with Murray and Midvale. From an even wider perspective, Salt Lake County is the major metropolitan county in the state and has unique needs. It should not be split up.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The smaller area is a suburban area.
Community Needs and Concerns
Salt Lake County is currently split into 3 congressional districts. The bulk of my HD is comprised of Cottonwood Heights, but I live in an 'appendage' that is Murray and which thus would be better served if it were kept with Murray and Midvale--the portions west of the VanWinkle and north of I-215.

Cultural or Historical Interests
Downtown Salt Lake City has existed for over a hundred years, for as long as SLC has been a city. It has historically been a very Mormon-dominated city, though it has become more of a multicultural area over time. Gentrification has become a concern, or has been a concern, for some time as people are moving back to urban cities from more suburban areas.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of people who live in downtown Salt Lake City. We mostly gather and socialize within the downtown community, though because of the limited area I think our gathering places extend into other communities as well. Because downtown SLC is fairly small, a lot of the services that we use and need are located outside of the downtown community council area on the periphery. School and child care services are located around the area, rather than directly downtown, including most shopping areas.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The service and tourism industries are big for those who live downtown, though I believe they are employed in a wide variety of industries that make up Salt Lake City's and the broader region's base.
Community Needs and Concerns
This may be more relevant for certain types of districts, but thinking through the interconnected nature of downtown Salt Lake City with the rest of its areas, it really seems like the city should be kept together whenever possible.

housing voting rights diversity education environment
Economic or Environmental Interests
We are concerned by traffic, uncontrolled housing growth, lack of water, pollution. We are opposed to the fossil fuel focus of our state when renewables are available. Our state is backward and we are forward looking.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is made of progressive, educated, successful families. Separate from the dominant LDS religion. More progressive than the extremely conservative state legislature. Our voices have been silenced by districting that spreads us across multiple counties with conservative majorities. Our preferences and priorities are routinely ignored by our state & US representatives.

Danger: REPORT Aug. 20, 2021
housing mental health education affordable
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is a mix of all religions, ethnic groups, age groups. This has just been in the last few years though. It was 20 years ago primarily all white LDS families.
Community Activities and Services
My community is surrounded by tons of stores but only one tiny library and a run down community center. We have a few well maintained parks, UOFU greenwood clinic.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Economical we are East and West, this means, the east all have jobs that pay over minimum wage. The West is primarily Hispanic low income families living in a community of nothing but run down houses and apartments. No community center for these kids to go to, no free mentor-ship programs. Good people working several jobs at low wages while the children are raising the children because they parents can't afford the ridiculous costs of daycare.
Community Needs and Concerns
We need less freaking store and apartments. Make housing affordable. My house could have easily recently sold for 500-550K. A house I bought 23 years ago for 175k. I couldn't even afford to live in my home and I have what I thought was a good paying job. We need a real community center for the kids, one that has actual activities besides basketball. Mentoring programs, a safe zone. Someone that actually cares.

My community is facing an abundance of domestic violence, a problem precluded by inadequate mental health care and education. More restrictions are needed for gun control and public safety. BIPOC and LGBTQIA voices need to be amplified to make our neighborhoods more equitable.

North Salt Lake - Foxboro/Legacy
Utah Community Maps
Danger: REPORT Aug. 19, 2021
housing diversity education environment suburban
Community Activities and Services
My community is part of the City of North Salt Lake but we are separated by a large industrial area that spans between the 1-15 freeway and Redwood Road from the rest of the city proper. We have a very popular community park with access to the Legacy Parkway. There are a mix of single-family homes, condos, and apartments in the community, as well as numerous elementary schools. We're on a bus route but otherwise have to rely on cars to get into the city, or ride a bike to the closest Frontrunner station in Woods Cross.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The Legacy Parkway (aka Jordan River Parkway), Legacy Nature Preserve, and greater Salt Lake wetlands area are immediately adjacent to our neighborhood, so conservation of the natural environment, and limiting damage and disruption from industrial sources and heavy transportation, is extremely important. Lifting the truck ban along the Legacy freeway was intensely unpopular here. The commercial and industrial interests around our community often drown out the voices of the people who actually live here.
Community Needs and Concerns
We're right on the cusp of Salt Lake County and Davis County, and often feel like an isolated oasis because we're on the "wrong side of the tracks" amidst a lot of industrial polluters and eyesores. We want to be a safe, eco-conscious neighborhood that doesn't get paved over (literally in some cases) by industrial forces with deeper pockets.

Danger: REPORT June 9, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community was a farmland when I moved here 25 years ago and now it is filled with homes and more recently meduim and high density housing. It is dominated by one religious group, but growing diversity is evident.
Community Activities and Services
My community has 3 well used parks within 5 minutes of my home. There are 3 places of worship of 3 different religions. Biking and walking trails are crowded.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community represents professionals with many small business owners and tech industry- Silicon Slopes.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community needs to be recognized for the diversity representative in large communities. Ethnic, racial, gender. For this reason the district lines must represent more that the predominant political party.

Danger: REPORT May 11, 2021
Community Activities and Services
Our kids go to school at Polk Elementary, Taylor Canyon Elementary, Ogden High, and Mount Ogden Jr High. We go to the Smith's on 12th to get our groceries and we get our medical care at McCay-Dee Hospital on Harrison. A lot of folks attend Weber State University. A lot of restaurants and local entertainment happens on historic 25th street, which is also close to the FrontRunner. We have lots of local parks.
Economic or Environmental Interests
A lot of local residents are employed at Weber State University and McCay-Dee. We also have a vibrant artist community. We have a growing population of unhoused individuals, and gentrification is pushing folks out of their homes.
Community Needs and Concerns
Needs in Ogden proper are distinct from the needs in the valley (Huntsville, etc).

The Avenues
Utah Community Maps
Danger: REPORT May 11, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is made up of people of a diverse population in terms of age, and is located in the historic Avenues neighborhood.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of people who attend the University of Utah, who visit the Corinne & Jack Sweet Branch public library, who work at/receive health care from the LDS Intermountain Healthcare Hospital, who worship at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, who attend Ensign Elementary School, who attend The Avenues Preschool, who ride the UTA #6 bus, the #3 bus, and the #11 bus. My community is also made up of people who frequent Lindsey Gardens Park, 11th Avenue Park & shop at Smiths on 6th Avenue
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is made up of many small businesses, restaurants, and schools like the Avenues Proper, Hatch Family Chocolates, Cafe on 1st, the Straw Market, Publik Coffee Roasters, Wildwood, Cucinas, Saffron Valley, West Farmers Market, Cafe Shambala, the Kura Door, Fire Station 4, Wasatch Elementary School, the Madeleine Choir School, the Salt Lake City Cemetery, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Jack Mormon Coffee Roasting, and the Ronald McDonald House. Our community struggles with air quality.
Community Needs and Concerns
The Avenues is most connected to the greater Salt Lake City area. The Greater Avenues area should be kept in a single district. We are also connected to other nearby communities like Federal Heights, and downtown Salt Lake. Our current congressional representation is not representative of our community's values.

Sugarhouse Commercial District
Utah Community Maps
Danger: REPORT May 7, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
Our community is a mix of older homes, commercial districts, and new apartment units. Many of the home owners in the community are distressed about the shift to more commercial and multifamily dwellings, if what I read on Next Door is accurate. The community council is trying to balance the quaint and quirky spirit of the community with the needs of a larger population.
Community Activities and Services
My community is in the midst of a big population boom. We have apartments going up everywhere! More people means more need for public transit and commercial services. Right now it's a very walkable space with a newly updated library, a streetcar, a nature trail for biking and walking, and two parks.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Because of the dramatic increase in population transit is the topic of discussion everywhere. Whether it's traffic, air pollution, or safety concerns it's a unifying topic.

Danger: REPORT May 7, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is made up of many different communities: the Latinx community, the Black community, the White community, the Muslim community, etc. A large place of worship is The Church of Latter-Day Saints at the Salt Lake City Temple, but many followers live outside of Salt Lake City. We have a large group of refugees here.
Community Activities and Services
My community loves to go outdoors. They go on hikes and walks. They gather at Liberty Park. My community likes to support small restaurants which they can find on 9th and 9th. They go to the University of Utah for school and sports games. They seek health services at Planned Parenthood and the University of Utah Hospital.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Residents in my community are usually employed in large private corporations, small businesses, hospitals, educational institutions like universities, and we also have a large unemployment problem.
Community Needs and Concerns
Our districts are too large. Some districts are smaller than others. The larger districts are made up of counties that are very different in culture and environment. Their problems are very different and shouldn't be in the same district. Many issues are being looked over because these districts are too big.

Avenues SLC
Utah Community Maps
Danger: REPORT May 3, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
I like that my community has a mix of single family homes and apartments. People here tend to be older, and almost all the houses here are older unreinforced masonry buildings (URMs) at risk of collapsing in a big earthquake (although they're really beautiful.) House size tends to be smaller, with very limited yard space, so everyone relies a lot on parks and shared outdoor spaces. The area is predominately white, and not LDS. There are several older churches in the area.
Community Activities and Services
I live in the Avenues, which is pretty cohesive as a neighborhood-- everything north of South Temple and east of State street. There is the LDS hospital, memory grove park, trails on 18th Ave, and the dog park at Lindsey Gardens and the SLC Cemetery. There's also a central grocery store-- the Smiths on 6th Ave.
Economic or Environmental Interests
I think most people work downtown. Living on an incline, the upper Aves is usually much less affected by Utah's winter inversions. But the lower Aves gets the smog.
Community Needs and Concerns
Housing prices are crazy expensive so people who live here in apartments can never afford to buy a house in the area. As I said earlier, dealing with URMs and taking care of older buildings is a unifying concern.
