Shaker Heights is historically very diverse and carries a history of open dialogue about race relations. While many of the equality-mindedness is unfortunately nominal, Shaker is unique in the explicit long-standing priorities to deliberate on racial equity, in which the well-regarded Student Group on Race Relations played a large role.
Community Activities and Services
My community is primarily brought together by the local school district. There is high engagement with educational decision-making and demonstrated care for this priority across the community. The community is also brought together by the preserved lakes and parks, particularly the Shaker Great Lakes, which have been the center of various advocacy projects and community-wide campaigns.

My community is made of Nepalese Americans in Baltimore County, particularly in Parkville, Nottingham, Perry Hall, Rosedale areas. The community has been in the neighborhood for 30 years and recently is growing fast. About 300 families are in this community.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made of many Nepalese-American or Bhutanese-Nepalese-American who go to Hindu Temple or Nepali Church located in Perry Hall area of Baltimore. They also go to BANA (Baltimore Association of Nepalese Americans) located in Parkville for social and cultural events. Many of us do not know where to go for healthcare or transportation or educational services.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community members hold several local businesses (restaurants, gas stations, subways, etc) and they are active in the communities.
Community Needs and Concerns
This community is spread over different districts. One issue of this community because of their cultural and linguistic barriers (mainly Nepali-speaking communities) is education. Many children in this community are diagnosed with autism and other developmental disorders. Many parents are not aware of available resources, even at the schools.

Augusta East

Augusta has its own public middle and high school (which has some students from nearby towns without a set high school, but most of its students live in Augusta). It receives municipal services from the city of Augusta.In the past, Augusta had two public middle schools and two Little Leagues (the little leagues were called "Augusta East" and "Augusta West") that were at least roughly based on the two sides of the Kennebec River, and even today one will hear people speak of "the east side" or "the west side." I would assume almost everyone in Augusta knows what side of the Kennebec River they live on.
Community Needs and Concerns
The current State House district plan (used in primary, general and special elections from 2014 through 2021) has most 83.87% of "Augusta East" in one state House district (where it makes up of the Kennebec River in one district (where it makes up 85.86% of that district; "Augusta West" making up the other 14.14%), but the remaining 16.13% of "Augusta East" (7.87% of Augusta) is in a district stretching well outside Augusta where Augusta residents make up only 16.09% of that district. "Augusta West" is too big for one State House district but at least has one House district entirely within it, with the remainder of "Augusta West" in another district entirely in Augusta.

The cultural bonds of our community is the National Park. We all love the wildlife, the landscape, the specialness of this place and our role as stewards and ambassadors of this special place.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of NPS concessionaire employees that live in Yellowstone National Park. We rely largely on services outside of the park because of the special nature of where we live. It is remote, it is a federal enclave, we are limited to a few health clinics for health care. We meet each other in government housing areas and surrounding gateway towns. In the winter the roads are closed and we rely on each other. We travel by snowmobile. We do not have public school access in Wyoming.
Economic or Environmental Interests
All residents are employed or are spouses/partners of the National Parks Service or a concessionaire. We face air quality concerns from vehicle traffic both in summer and winter time. We also face uniques water quality issues based on our water sources.
Community Needs and Concerns
We need to be considered as a whole not split into two geographic groups. We need better and easier access to drivers licenses, state and county services, healthcare access, school access. Because we live in a federal enclave, being represented as a whole will help us be better represented in the democratic process. We need to be one voice that is also connected with the south of the park with the other National Park Service units (John D. Rockefeller Jr. Parkway, and Grand Teton National Park).

My community is largely Asian American including a number of naturalized citizens originally from India, Pakistan and China. People speak a lot of languages in addition to English - Mandarin, Hindi, Gujarati, Urdu, Telugu, Malayalam, Korean, Vietnamese and Spanish. A lot of people moved into the area recently often from other parts of the United States.
Community Activities and Services
We have a big Costco and HEB grocery store near us as well as the Smart Financial Center (concert and show venue). There is a campus of the University of Houston here. My community has two large Muslim religious centers - the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center and the Maryam Islamic Center. There are several Hindu temples that people in the community go to but are not located directly in the area.
Economic or Environmental Interests
This community is suburban, upper class and upper middle class, highly educated - many people are in STEM careers (medicine, IT, engineers). Many people had been employed in oil & gas and oilfield services companies. Flooding is a major concern as well as severe weather (tropical storms/hurricanes). Our homes are protected by levee improvement districts.

The Edgebrook Community Association (ECA) is our area's local homeowner organization that enjoys a long history that began back in the 1940s, when many of the homes in our area were just being built. Surrounded by forest preserves, this corner of the city has a reputation for "suburban living in the city", while offering quick access to all the museums, theatres, and shopping experiences of the City of Chicago!The ECA encourages a community spirit among our residents, while seeking to assist with the maintenance and improvement of some of the public property and services in the community. To keep our local area looking its best, the ECA actively supports and manages the maintenance.
Community Needs and Concerns
To stay in touch with the City of Chicago, members of our board interface with the Alderman's offices and the forest preserve officials that serve our community, to highlight things that require attention and voice our concerns on city zoning issues and other city-related topics. Our Edgebrook Community is in two City of Chicago Wards - 39th and 41st. This divides our small (but important) business district. Many members of our Community want to see this area grow. We are not truly represented equally by being in two different Wards of the City.

We are a part of the growing suburbs around Chicago and the Golden Corridor of business. Our economic growth unites the northwest suburbs and makes us a community of interest. We want a fair and equitable Illinois that actually grows, not shrinks in population.
Community Needs and Concerns
Keeping our state districts compact around our areas, hopefully without splitting towns, would probably be best. I expect to hear from people running in Arlington Heights or surrounding areas like Barrington or Wheeling. Actually, with our congressional districts, I think the 6th, 8th, 9th, and 10th could use a good redraw. Have a district go along the Golden Corridor, to represent our economic unity.
