Community Activities and Services
My Community of Interest is Scottsdale. For years Scottsdale district has been included with Fountain Hills. Scottsdale is a metropolitan community, more part of greater Phoenix then suburban bedroom community. Scottsdale is much more than a tourist town to residents we work, shop and dine in Scottsdale, not Fountain Hills. We have a very large business community including a health care industry recognized worldwide. This district is not competitive. There are very few people representing the Hispanic community in this district. My map includes South Scottsdale instead of the very homogenous community of Fountain Hills. My map is much more competitive, fair and represents my community.

My community of interest is the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. I have lived in the area surrounding the Phoenix Mountain Preserve since 1963 and I am still an avid hiker. I love living near the mountains in the midst of a bustling city. My community values the preserve as a source for inspiration and recreation. We are custodians and ambassadors of this natural resource. Many of us belong to The Friends of Phoenix Mountain Preserve group; We worked with the city to determine the best route for their water pipeline, for this reason and many others, this district needs to include all boundaries of the preserve in one district. The Tempe Blues
AZ Indivisible
Danger: REPORT Aug. 10, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
Tempe has a diverse population and includes economically challenged and economically privileged neighborhoods. Residents represent the world population and our public schools accommodate several different languages while assimilating our new neighbors. Tempe continues to work with the native populations in Guadalupe and Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Communities.
Community Activities and Services
My community is a cultural and economic engine for Maricopa county. Tempe Town Lake is the beginning of the Rio Salado Restoration project to expand recreation opportunities, replenish habitat for native species and reclaim valuable property for affordable housing and business. Tempe residents meet their shopping needs for groceries and all other items locally. Tempe is the home to AZ Sate University and Rio Salado Community College, while being close to Mesa Community College. Tempe leads in Public Transportation with Light Rail and will connect passenger rail to Tucson.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Tempe is landlocked and is actively working to create room for additional families and businesses by building in and building up in a planned and managed fashion to mitigate environmental, cultural and economic harm. Our city is wrapped in connector freeway links that enhance our economy but also add to the particulate air quality/pollution problem in Maricopa County. Tempe Town lake is the #2 destination in AZ. Tempe's link to PHX Airport, Papago Park, Papago Golf Course, PHX Muni Stadium, PHX Zoo, Pueblo Grande and Grady Gammage Auditorium make it a major economic engine for the entire Metro-PHX region.
Community Needs and Concerns
Tempe has 3 public school districts that perform at an A+ status for our children and families. We don't want our public dollars siphoned off to support Charter and Private Schools. Tempe continues to work on Sustainability Programs for neighborhoods, businesses and public institutions. We vote for public safety and support our first responders through bond initiatives on a regular basis. Tempe continues to address the growing homeless population in a strategic and humane manner. There is a need for affordable-workforce housing so that our school and public employees can live close to where they work, as our neighbors. We are fortunate to have an electorate that supports COMMUNITY.

The Valley North of the 101
AZ Indivisible
Danger: REPORT Aug. 8, 2021
environment water outdoor activities wildfires
Cultural or Historical Interests
Much of this COI lives among the saguaros, javelinas, and wildlife that are unique to this part of the country. They matter to us personally. As do our horses - they are part of our lives (even for those who don't own them) and certainly part of our heritage. There are ancient ruins, abandoned mines, and still the feel of the desert which is largely lost as you go south of this COI. On the flip side, we consider ourselves part of the broader Phoenix metropolitan area, interested in the Valley's news and enjoying access to all its amenities yet able to live daily in our own slightly-rural world.
Community Activities and Services
Our main activities: outdoors! Hiking, horseback riding, golfing, off-roading, cycling, and/or motorcycling. Many horse properties throughout this area, plus parks and undeveloped land for recreating. Shopping: mainly from Cave Creek & Carefree west & south down to Norterra, south to Desert Ridge near the 101 and down Scottsdale Rd to Mayo Blvd & Bell Rd. We go to movie theaters & restaurants in Norterra, Desert Ridge, or on Bell Rd & Mayo Blvd. Healthcare: most all of our doctors, dog vets, horse vets, & healthcare services are in this COI. Virtually no public transportation in this COI. Cave Creek is an entertainment destination for many in this COI & beyond.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Economic: almost all economic needs/interests are met within this COI. Those in the north all go south and west for 95% of goods and services but to go south beyond Bell Rd seems just "too far" for most things. Environmental Interests: Many of us spend much time outdoors and are keenly aware of environmental and climate change issues because we have experienced the changes directly and constantly over the last 10-20 years. We are concerned about the future for our animals, our outdoor activities, even our saguaros and desert wildlife among which we live.
Community Needs and Concerns
Fires - a constant concern. Strong horse community here from all over this COI to help each other evacuate horses - this is needed almost every year. Water - many on wells or hauled water. Most of this COI is zero-scaped or undeveloped. Diversity - The northern & southern parts of this COI need each other for diversity in age, race, ethnicity, and politics. Competitiveness - NONE in the northern parts of this COI. Northern Dems in this COI have not had any chance at being represented in the 17 years I've lived here. Absolutely no shared interests with Anthem or Yavapai County - with whom the northern parts of this COI are enslaved together in one Legislative District. Please fix this!

Cultural or Historical Interests
A lot of the cultural centers are pretty far from where I live. At least one significant center is Iskcon. It's located more near Tempe / Phoenix. Another center is called Chin Maya Mission. This is in Phoenix.
Community Activities and Services
Basis Chandler High School (big community gathering area). Majority of students that attend there are Asian folks. That's where I and my friends access educational services. It's a very study-intensive school. Not a ton of opportunities to socialize. Lots of Asian folks that live in this area as well. There is a neighborhood named Fulton Ranch where lots of Asian folks live. Indian Grocers - "Patel Bros." Closer to Downtown Chandler. Tumeric - half grocery store/ half takeout restaurant.
Economic or Environmental Interests
In the community where I live, people are generally economically salient and pretty well-to-do. For environmental concerns, I think that at least most AAs and people that I know -- shared understanding is that people recycle and reuse products. This is something that I grew up with.

Community Activities and Services
This is a very active community for hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, exploring archaeological sites. Indoor activities concentrate in coffee shops, churches, restaurants, western bars and the local library. It has a western theme and draws numerous tourists.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Tourism is the main basis for the town's economy although many larger stores are have been approved and built on the southern boundary. Land preservation has resulted in our town partnering with other government agencies to purchase Spur Cross Ranch. We also have the Desert Foothills Land Trust. Maintaining a sustainable environment is of high importance.Water conservation/availability is of high concern given the increase in annual temperatures and decrease in rainfall. This includes the for profit water mining of our aquafer.
Community Needs and Concerns
Our community commonly interconnects with Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tramonto/Noterra areas. People constantly move back and forth in these areas/cities for work, leisure, medical and social needs. We have no day to day commonality with Yavapai County to our north.Sustainable growth is of great concern to assure availability of water.Preservation of wildlife and habitat coupled with effects of climate change need to be considered in policy decisions regarding growth and development.

Danger: REPORT July 16, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
I live in a gated community with roughly 25 homes. Several of the homes were built by their residents 20-25 years ago. The residents are primarily white, and when I first moved here in 2016, there were many elderly. Some of their children have taken over their homes, or others have sold their homes to relocate into smaller ones.In 2021 most residents are around middle age, and several (including myself) have children attending college and entering the workforce. The nearby church and schools are other places where people gather and form cultural bonds.
Community Activities and Services
There is a Christ's Church of the Valley (CCV) campus a few blocks away from my home. I attended church here with my kids and have seen other neighbors there.Several schools are within walking distance, including Corona del Sol High School and Kyrene de la Mirada Middle School. Bus service was established along Ray Rd a couple of years ago and has made it easier for my kids and others to travel to school and work.
Economic or Environmental Interests
A lot of residents are in the upper middle-class tax bracket. There is a defunct Intel factory nearby where some still work. There are also a lot of retirees who live in the area. Many local stores, such as Fry's Marketplace, EOS Fitness, etc., employ people of all ages and backgrounds. There is a library within walking distance where a lot of kids hang out after school. My neighborhood features several parks and artificial lakes.
Community Needs and Concerns
My neighborhood and the surrounding community are predominantly white and right-leaning, making it difficult to relate to my neighbors at times. My neighbors are good to talk about politics and their views, but I have not seen much from them in community activism. If they do give time or money to other organizations, they aren't vocal about it.I would like to see more connectivity between my neighbors and surrounding communities when it comes to redistricting.

GROWTH is the primary economic interest of Buckeye. Buckeye was originally a farming community. Over the past couple of decades, farms have gradually been sold, primarily to builders who have created an ever-expanding residential area moving outward from Phoenix. Cave Creek and Carefree community
AZ Indivisible
Danger: REPORT July 12, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
Residents are interested in preserving open space and the desert. The Desert Foothills Land Trust has preserved 375 acres of desert. Most community members are of Anglo descent, but there is a small Latinx population in Cave Creek. Residents in Cave Creek are a majority senior population, with the median age in Cave Creek being 58 years (2018). Frequent Arts Festivals are held in Cave Creek and Carefree. Cave Creek has a history of a western lifestyle through mining and cattle ranching. Many horse communities are found in Cave Creek and Cave Creek has a yearly parade and rodeo. Carefree was a planned development with the intention of embedding housing within the natural environment.
Community Activities and Services
My community includes the small towns of Cave Creek and Carefree. People gather at local coffee shops, the Desert Foothils Library, local restaurants and bars, area churches, the Holland Center, the YMCA and local organizations, such as the Kiwaniis Club, and the Desert Awareness Committee. The area caters to a large tourist population with many shops and restaurants. The area has no public transportation. There is an urgent care center in Carefree and a medical center is being built in Cave Creek. The Foothills Food Bank serves a population that is food deprived with food boxes, financial assistance and help filing for Food Stamps.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Many residents are retired or work from home. Some residents own small businesses and restaurants in the community. Outside of shops, restaurants and grocery stores, there is little employment in the community. Workers need to go south into Phoenix and Scottsdale for employment. Many of the employees of the area shops/restaurants come into the communities during the day from the Phoenix area, as it is too expensive to live here. Water is a concern, with a number of homes in Cave Creek on wells. Also, there have been conflicts between the two communities over the water company and CAP water.
Community Needs and Concerns
Our communities have nothing in common with Prescott, yet are currently in the same legislative district as Yavapai County. As our communities are dependent economically upon the greater Phoenix/Maricopa area, it would make more sense to have us in a district with the population south of us. I do feel the Cave Creek and Carefree should continue to be together in a district, as we have close proximity and some commonalities.

City of Casa Grande
RAZE
Danger: REPORT May 28, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is made up of BIPOC populations in Casa Grande. Different populations share languages, traditions, values and culture. We face the common hardship of being underrepresented in government.
Community Activities and Services
My community utilizes the services of the City of Casa Grande. This includes Parks and Recreation, the public libraries, schools and social services. My community accesses these services daily across the city. These services and activities are essential as it is a rural community and people cannot easily access metro area services
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is located in Rural Arizona. Agriculture and manufacturing are two very important industries to my community. Not only do people depend a lot on these industries, these industries are major employers in this area.
Community Needs and Concerns
My BIPOC community is located in Casa Grande, in Pinal County, and is split between two legislative districts. I do not feel my community should be split. The BIPOC community of Casa Grande spans across the entire city; however, the interests and use of services are very similar. My community needs to be together in one district to ensure fair, equitable and proportional representation.

Danger: REPORT May 25, 2021
Cultural or Historical Interests
The large part of my community is Latinx and many families are mixed-status or undocumented some are black or African American families as well and a minority are white. For many Spanish is their first language and/or they’re bilingual.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made of families whose children attend G. Frank Davidson elementary, St. Augustine Church, and Trevor G. Browne High school. The church provides childcare and community events in the summer. My community uses El Oso Park
Economic or Environmental Interests
Residents are employed in industries like construction and retail. A great concern for my community are te rising temperatures especially during the summer and the accompanying rising electric bills.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is concerned for how they will sustain themselves as the local economy recuperates from covid this past year. Many families’ main providers were laid off or lost their job and grocery store prices around us rose significantly which has made life hard. Immigration and the heightened police presence has always been of concern as well because many are undocumented.

Danger: REPORT May 25, 2021
Community Needs and Concerns
There is quite a bit of theft in my area and the alleys are always so dirty. The trash in only picked up from the bins but now off the ground. An overflow of trash through the alleys. This makes me think the city doesn't care about our neighborhood nor the people that live in it.
