A general lack of access to health insurance due to immigration status. Mental health and substance abuse are also major concerns of this community, related to substandard living conditions and the acculturation stress (stress of living as a Hispanic in the US).

Lack of tree cover. Auto emissions from 93. We live in a heat island, the lack of trees is astounding & makes it extremely difficult to get relief from the heat & humidity, certain streets have no trees at all. We are in a climate emergency & not enough is being done to address it. Also the garbage & lack of composting creates lots of rats & mice in the neighborhood, folks leave scraps of food out everywhere thinking to help the animals but it doesn't.
Community Needs and Concerns
Politicians should know that people want to be able to stay in Dorchester. We need more housing at all price points. So there is a big divide between those on the 'hill's vs those us who aren't. And the places w/ money are Popes Hill, Jones Hill, Ashmont Hill, Codman Hill, Neponset Hill, Savin Hill have all the best everything. The amount of new housing being built is not for us, we can't afford these bright, shiny, new apt/condos. They have to consider where the people who live in apt building or triple deckers are not making six figure salaries & can't manage moving when rents get jacked up either. Housing is a human right.

We are very culturally rooted and celebrating our religious festivities is something that we are really proud of. We celebrate the Holy ghost and are very faithful and devoted to this spiritual belief. We organize dinners and sell tickets all year long to help our church. Also, when someone in our community is in need we organize events to help one another. We use the Band Club and Don Carlos Club to gather and celebrate our special occasions like birthdays, first communions, graduations, etc.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made of people that immigrated here in the late 70's from a small town in Sao Miguel Azores called Agua Retorta. We all attend Saint Anthony of Padua church located on Bedford St because most people lived around the area of the church. There is still a big portion of our community that lives in this area, including myself. We shop all over the city but we mostly love to shop in small markets that have the Portuguese products like Portugalia Marketplace, Chaves Market, Amaral's market.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Our residents are employed in several places, some even owe their own small businesses. We are very hard workers and most men work in construction and landscape. Women work on manufactural industries, small businesses, restaurants, etc. Most of the members of our community's are home owners. Some own multi family homes others own single family homes.

Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is made of Cambodian's that live a little bit all over the city of Fall River. We arrived here in the early 80's and most of us came as refugee's. St. Luke's church was our home and that community welcomed us. Rev. Jim Hornsby accommodated many in his home until we were settled (children's in school, adults with jobs and apartments). In the beginning it was very hard for us because we didn't feel very welcomed by the community and it was hard to get a job or find an apartment for our family.Until today, our community is very rooted in our traditions and culture. We have a dance group with 15 elements that performs in cultural and private events. Some speak English but most Khmer.
Community Activities and Services
People in my community gather at Church (St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Fall River) and at the Buddhist Temple. Wedding celebrations are done at the Temple. We also use social clubs in Fall River to celebrate special occasions (graduations and birthday's) such as the Liberal Club. For healthcare services we mainly use the Health First medical center and Saint Anne's Hospital. My community shops in two local supermarkets that sell Asian food, one located on Pleasant St (Flint area) and one located on Quequechan St. Some of us have cars but some of us depend on our family and friends to get around or on public transportation.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The Cambodian community is mostly employed locally by owning their small businesses (nail salon's). Some work in other cities and carpool with
