Community Activities and Services
My community gets all services from outside the town of Hideout. Grocery shopping, gas, medical appointments, parks, churches, nonprofits are entirely located in Summit County and the greater Park City area, either in the area of Quinn's Junction, Kimball Junction, or within the Park City limits. Public transit is also based in Summit County and Park City. This area is defined by it's skiiing destinations which are also all in Park City and Summit County.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Hideout shares economic interests with Park City and Snyderville Basin. This is where we obtain all of our services. Tourism in this area (especially the ski resorts) is the reason most of Hideout's residents have moved here, to ski, bike, and when possible, to work remotely from our homes or have a relatively easy commute to the Salt Lake Valley or Airport.
Community Needs and Concerns
The Town of Hideout is a municipality with a rapidly growing population. The town is located in Wasatch County, where the closest county services, shopping, medical services, and recreation, are in Heber City, more than 15 miles away. Park City, in Summit County, is much closer, just 3 miles away, so residents fully identify with the Park City/Snyderville Basin area rather than Heber or Midway cities. Park City and Summit County is where all of us shop, get gas, go to doctors, recreate, and obtain all of our local services. Our friends live in Park City and Snyderville Basin, and we support the non-profits of Park City and Summit County. These should be Hideout's communities of interest.

Danger: REPORT Oct. 15, 2021
Population: 1293922
healthcare homelessness air quality affordable multicultural
Cultural or Historical Interests
Our community is fairly diverse, for Utah. Quite a few refugees have been moved into our community (which is wonderful), and they need additional support for language acquisition to help with getting jobs, affordable housing, access to public transportation, etc. School districts seem to have been working hard to help with the children coming into the system who need support learning a new language while learning about their new country. Our community offers multiple festivals, particularly in the summer and fall, dedicated to celebrating the diverse ethnic and artistic cultures in our population.
Community Activities and Services
We have parks and libraries that are fairly easy to access on foot or via public transportation. More children have been moving into and being born in our community, and our schools are reaching capacity (some probably need to be rebuilt or retrofitted for earthquake safety). Our parks are extremely well utilized by adults and children (but homeless individuals and camps can make the parks feel less safe).
Economic or Environmental Interests
Our community suffers from extremely poor air quality. Being near the airport, our air pollution problems are evident to visitors/tourists flying in from around the world. We are also suffering a huge increase in the numbers of homeless individuals and families; their issues are diverse and not fully researched or understood. Housing is getting to be too expensive, which complicates the homelessness issues.
Community Needs and Concerns
This is an urban community. We need a representative who is focused on the needs of urban communities (affordable housing, clean air, access to more public transportation, more/safer school buildings and teachers). It doesn't make sense to divide our community up and spread it to other districts that are more rural and have very different issues (farming, mining, etc.)

Climate change is a big concern, especially because of our tourism economy based on snow. Growth is a challenge with ski resorts, parking lots, etc. I’m concerned about growth, especially around Jordnalle. We are losing open space. A lot of people have moved out. What do developers give back to the community?Main concern is how expensive everything has become. Housing is horribly expensive. Commuting is challenging and I would be happier if I could live a little closer to my work in Park City.It feels unattainable to own a home and raise a family here. We aren't pleased with the way the 2010 redistricting process separated us from other areas in the county with similar concerns. MODERATE candidates are SORELY NEEDED to bring ideas forth that the greater proportion of Salt Lake County can get behind. I never thought I'd be campaigning and donating to candidates living 10 minutes away, who I cannot vote for because of these boundaries. The majority of the district being rural means that the majority has no idea about the needs of such a diverse community, and the urban component has no idea of rural needs.
Community Needs and Concerns
This is an urban community, with urban concerns. At present, we are combined into a district which is overwhelmingly rural. The majority of folks around here are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or another denomination of Christianity. Many people attend or work for BYU and are thus passionate about life-long learning and service.
Community Activities and Services
My community are students who attend BYU and the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Public transportation is everywhere but it's underused because of a lack of convenience and a lack of education on how it can be used effectively. We are passionate about environment issues, especially since we spend most of the year covered in smoke and we have to stare at the eye-sore which is Utah Lake.
Economic or Environmental Interests
For the majority of the year, most residents are students and/or employed by BYU. Those who aren't are usually retired or have a longer commute to get to work outside of Provo.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community needs to learn to use public transportation better. We need to help Utah Lake thrive again to help grow our economy and make Utah Valley a gem of the United States. Most people in my community struggle with the cost of housing and have opted to not buy a home because the price is so steep in comparison to the size and quality of the homes being sold. This issue is of no or little concern to the rural areas of the state who are lucky enough to be able to breath clean air in most cases. Tied to this is a need for a much more robust public transportation system which would reduce traffic and the huge amount of carbon monoxide emitting vehicles. We also are faced with a problem of affordable housing and shrinking open space, this in turn exacerbates the problems of a growing homeless population.

We have a large latinx population who contribute to our economy and live and participate in our community and schools. It is important that they are well-represented and listened to. Affordable housing, access to education, child care and health insurance are important issues that will help our latinx population thrive in our communities.
Community Activities and Services
We are a group of 10 people who live and/or work in the greater Park City area. Our community is affected by the tourist industry and consists of everybody who participates in and works for this and adjacent industries. If it thrives, our community thrives. We feel development pressures and want to handle growth responsibly. It is important that our voice is included in the conversation about how to manage development responsibly. And it is important that we are represented by people who understand the needs of the tourist industry and the challenges of development in a constrained environment and can speak up on this and other issues affecting us.
Economic or Environmental Interests
It would make sense for our community to be linked with other communities who also thrive on the tourism resources such as the national park country, Torrey, Moab, etc. We are interested in addressing climate change as changing climate greatly affects our outdoor tourism resources. We are stewards of our mountains and water and dependent on them for life and livelihood.
Community Needs and Concerns
It is important that we center and focus on equity and ensure that communities from all socioeconomic backgrounds are well represented.

Further encouraging cities to expand activities available to the public is essential. Provo is seeing great strides in this and we need to make sure these interests are supported at the state level.
Community Needs and Concerns
The city of Provo does not offer recycling services to commercial or multi unit residential spaces. These businesses and apartment complexes have to buy the services from a third party and often do not due to the cost, space required and perceived demand. Cultural or Historical Interests
The largest common cultural identity is being 'not LDS' - what it means to be a progressive or liberal minority in a majority conservative state. There are many forms of it, but it is always the 'other' here.
Community Activities and Services
My community is composed of people who socialize outside of religious services - often times in local parks, trails and local bars and restaurants. We use I-15 and other highways to commute but largely downtown roads through the greater Salt Lake metropolitan area. Most have cars but a sizable number don't - and use public transportation (trax/buses), or walking (in the downtown area) or bike riding.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is split between those in software/construction, who are largely doing well at the moment and getting by, and many in the service industries - retail or food service, for whom rent and housing are very, very real concerns. I know many people who have to work second or third jobs to make ends meet. All of us are concerned about climate change (see for example this year's horrible air quality due to the fires out west, as well as its record setting heat in June).
Community Needs and Concerns
Doing more for the environment is a large long term concern. Addressing housing demand in the greater Salt Lake area is a major concern. The problems of violence downtown are a concern. The fear/uncertainty of how to help the homeless is a concern. Some of these are national concerns (e.g. climate change, potentially housing) for which my community feels completely unrepresented through Utah's current congressional delegation. The local concerns are largely addressed at the city/county level but often impeded by state level politics.

There are always ways to divide a community, in our small town it's often by how long you've lived here, and where you were born. That doesn't divide geographically. But most people, no matter how long they've lived here, value the open spaces and small country town feel. Finding ways to support the local farmers and ranchers to prevent families from having to 'sell out' for that last cash crop can help preserve the agricultural ecomomy.
Community Activities and Services
As a coach and parent, my community is tied to the local school and rec center. Considering school district boundaries might help, but of course even within the school district, there are many divisions and conflicting communities of interest.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Development pressures are straining the laws designed to protect wildlife habitat. Precious remaining wetlands are being filled without consequences, and abuse/overuse of nearby public lands is hard to manage.
Community Needs and Concerns
With drought and climate change, the current rate and type of development must adapt. Not enough water for everyone to continue same wasteful habits.

Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is at the entrance to 2 canyons that lead to hiking trails, campgrounds, and 4 ski resorts. Access to and stewardship of our natural areas is important. We also have a lot of dog owners, but no fenced dog parks.
Community Needs and Concerns
We've seen an increase in traffic congestion. We need representation that appreciates our desire to preserve our natural spaces, not develop every open area. Cleaning up what we have instead of adding more is key. Existing public transportation is not ideal, with the exception of ski buses that do get people directly to their destinations. I live in an area of Salt Lake made up of doctors, professors, entrepreneurs, stay at home moms and retirees. While occupations are diverse, the common thread in our neighborhood is largely one of progressive thinking, inclusiveness and conservation. Many of us own historic homes we seek to improve, and a large group of us on my street gather (pre-covid) once a month for a potluck to talk about issues important to us (this is not specific to religious, political or any other demographic...just neighbors). While not very ethnically diverse, visiting professors and health care workers at LDS hospital do offer different perspectives to our community.
Community Needs and Concerns
We live in what is largely considered a "liberal" part of the Salt Lake City, but since the gerrymandering of our district several years ago, we have had zero opportunity for representation on the federal level. I don't take issue with the conservative areas of our state and those who live in rural communities, but our district is lumped in with a large swath of conservative areas such as Davis and Washington Counties, and the rural areas to the west and south of us. The needs and representation of rural and conservative strong holds are very different from the needs of our neighborhood. To segment Salt Lake City and carve up liberal areas makes it impossible for us to have representation.

My community is one of the most diverse in an otherwise very homogenous state. While I am a member of the dominant religion and race, I value that local diversity that is more present where I live and am angered and dismayed when members of my community are largely silenced politically due to gerrymandered districts. I don’t think most members of my religion want those Utahns outside our faith to feel or be bullied politically through devious political machinations like gerrymandering, but that’s the way things are currently, creating a community culture that often is united in opposition to the dominant faith, which it views as its political enemy, and not without some justification.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Because we are an urban area we experience the greatest amount of air pollution in the state. Therefore we feel a greater sense of urgency about passing laws decreasing polluting energy use and increasing clean energy use.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is the most urban area of Salt Lake Valley and there are concerns about housing affordability and a general desire to solve the housing affordability problem by increasing housing density. Areas outside the urban center are more resistant to doing their part to increase housing density which is increasing the homelessness problem and the number of housed individuals who cannot afford to buy homes. The homelessness issue is far more burdensome in my area than in the less urban areas of the county/state.

Local interests include the LDS Temple and pioneer heritage. There is also a strong arts district here with the varying music programs. We have multiple theatre companies, both professional and community, as well as a professional opera and choir/orchestra.
Community Activities and Services
-My community is largely both rural and suburban. although most land is used for agriculture, most people do not work in it. -The university is a large gathering place with football and basketball games. -There are also major gatherings during summer holidays, like 4th of July Fireworks at the stadium, county fairs, Cache Valley Cruise In, and more. -We access most things through our own vehicle transport. There is local transit with busses that is mostly utilized in the center of the valley with college students being most of the patrons. However, others still use it for various purposes, such as shopping, non-emergency medical needs, and traveling to/from work

Living so close to downtown Salt Lake City you have a great mix of students/business professionals that come from a whole swarm of different backgrounds and careers. Ultimately I think we'd like to see more sustainable growth, housing options that keep prices affordable while maintaining the beautiful aesthetic of the aves. (No cookie-cutter big box apartments). Folks love to walk and explore the avenues and so finding great ways to increase population while keeping our roads safe (Public transit options, walkable communities, etc.)

I have lived in Utah since 1979. My children were born and raised here. I am a nonMormon and a Democrat. I expect my government to be ethical and secular. I am not finding the state or federal representatives to be either, except for the rep and senator for Utah state government that represent me.
Community Activities and Services
I feel like the state was divided in a way that heavily favors conservatives. I would like representation, and as Democrats, we have a right to representation that is denied to us through previous gerrymandering.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We need to stop incentivizing business to move to Utah. Utah doesn't have the water or resources to support the growth that has occurred in recent years. Come to visit; not to live. Focus on improving the air in the valley: less industry, less commuting in cars with one driver, more trees planting (the city arborists are terrific!) and enforcing businesses to reduce water usage and air emissions.
Community Needs and Concerns
Ever since Reagan changed our treatment of behavioral health patients in this country, homelessness has skyrocketed. We need incentive programs for businesses to help out: hire those who don't have a permanent address; provide more community mental health services, raise consciousness about homelessness: People aren't on the street because it is fun. And those that avoid the shelters cannot abide by the rules that say they cannot self-medicate there. Alcohol and drugs are how we cope with mental illness when we cannot afford care. We can do better. The stigma associated with those without permanent addresses is dead wrong. Help our citizens, all of them.

My community, and the populace of Salt Lake City in general, is grossly underrepresented in the Utah State Legislature. Decades of cynical gerrymandering by the legislature has divided the more liberal votes up so carefully that despite being barely over half the state, republicans (which in Utah means Mormons) make up 75% of our state level elected officials. This gives them a supermajority which allows them to even override extremely popular public propositions such as medical marijuana and medicaid expansion with no concern about repercussions.
Community Activities and Services
My community is the Lower Avenues. We are mostly single family homes, mostly slightly older families with college age or adult kids who've moved, but mixed with younger families who rent and some college students in apartment buildings.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We value access to public transit and bicycle paths, since parking is at a premium here and we want to reduce our impact. More access to transit especially for the west side of the city and other historically underserved neighborhoods is a high priority to us. We want to be better connected to our west side neighbors.
Community Needs and Concerns
No one I know feels represented by our state legislature. We know it's been gerrymandered to within an inch of its life. Our federal Senatorial elections are also a total joke. the fact that Mike Lee is supposed to represent Salt Lake city is utterly disgusting and he's a national embarrassment.

Sanpete has a history of agriculture and small-scale industry. Celebrating agriculture and cowboy culture is very important to many even as fewer people actually work in ranching and farming. The oldest European settlers were mostly English and Danish and the Scandinavian roots are a constant theme. In recent decades, Latinx people have immigrated, starting with working age men and extending to families. The largest ELL group of schoolkids is Spanish speaking. I feel that there is a very clear divide between 'old settler' stock and Latinos. Also, a very recent immigrant trend is from American Samoa.
Community Activities and Services
Snow College in Ephraim is a center of activity for the whole county. Public schools, especially high schools also host many activities. Traditionally, the LDS church has held the central place for all Sanpete towns, but now there is a growing Catholic presence as well as unaffiliated people.
Economic or Environmental Interests
One of the largest employers is the Central UT prison. Other jobs are in education, agriculture, trucking and mining. The city governments are trying to increase tourism, but I don't think we have much conservation mindedness here. For example, grazing sheep and cattle is considered more important than protecting watersheds. Water demand is also never-ending problem. The cities try to promote households conserving water, but there's no real incentive.
Community Needs and Concerns
Sanpete and Carbon Counties have been arguing over water from the Gooseberry Creek for about a century. I don't know if putting them in the same district would help solve that or just make it worse. Opioids and meth have hit Sanpete hard, like other rural areas. I find it interesting that we also have quite a large "troubled teen" industry. It seems ironic (Is your kid on drugs? Send them to a place with lots of drugs!) I find rural living necessary for my mental health, but apparently it's hard on a lot of people.

Utah is a desert and water is its most valuable resource. Water must be used rationally. The local military base needs to be respectful of the local civilian population and manage noise and EPA compliance. Housing cost too much and young people can not afford to live on their own - many having to live with parents or in groups.
Community Needs and Concerns
The state needs to stop gerrymandering areas to dilute voting populations of other faiths (non-Mormon), ethic (Black, Hispanic, Asian), and political (Democrat). The wrong people are being chosen to run for political office - they are being bought and paid for by out of state donors, political action groups, and lobbyists.. The best people don't run because they are not 'connected'. Our community values education and social justice. We value clean air. We want dramatic action to counter antropogenic climate change.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We creeks that run through our neighborhoods. There are areas where these creeks are open to the public as nature preserves and parks. An oil pipeline transverses the foothills of the mountains to the east, and we had a pipeline fail - dumping crude oil into Red Butte Creek. With Salt Lake City's emphasis on an outdoor lifestyle, we need to protect and enhance our natural spaces. Many people in our community work from home. Some areas now have more than one choice for high speed internet services. Our older neighborhood is close to or on an active branch of the Wasatch Fault. Our properties are at risk, especially those built of unreinforced masonry.
Community Needs and Concerns
Our Congressional District Includes vast areas with small rural communities that do not have common interests with our urban/suburban community. Our concerns for air quality, transportation, open space access and preservation are not the same as the issues in small communites. Our larger population and greater density makes pandemic response strategies much different here than in small rural communities, yet our representative aligns with the rural population.

Community Activities and Services
My community includes the urban neighborhoods of Salt Lake City, and the fact that we have a shared interest in making the "bones" of a city work well for everyone who lives and visits there. This includes a reduction in the emphasis on roadbuilding and catering to the automobile at the expense of pedestrians, bikes and "living your life" in the city without constantly dealing with traffic, parking and the excessive expense that cars represent. Of course we will still own cars (2), but use them in away that is compatible with a lifestyle . The implication of this non-automotive function is that I support protections and growth boundaries on suburbia before we pave everything under.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The 2 largest challenges that Utah faces are outgrowths of excessive population growth. These challenges are access to adequate water, and clean air. It's unlikely we will ever limit population growth, but we CAN limit where it goes and how it develops. We should not be subsidizing suburban development that creates significant tax liabilities (via infrastructure) for future generations, but instead should be focused on denser development of existing communities, with the addition of public transit. Water access will come from the elimination of uneconomic farming practices, but the farming communities MUST be supported as they transfer away from their current outdated economic models.
Community Needs and Concerns
Communities should be able to be heard by their Representatives without being drowned out by a State-level majority that oppresses all opposition. For example, air quality is a significant concern on the Wasatch Front, and requires regulation of automotive emissions. Yet, this is a non-issue for 20 or so of the 29 Counties in Utah. Districts need to be drawn so that concerns that affect a certain area of the state that share problems, geography or economic interests are grouped. No more 4-district pizza-pie where all 4 congressional districts have a slice of Salt Lake City. Better to have a donut where the rural areas have a shared focus on rural concerns, and the urban area is separate.

I believe my community extends across my city — across class, racial, and religious lines. Although I live on the outskirts of a more affluent area, my community spans much further than this, and it’s important not to have separation across class and race lines. This is important for everything from education to helping the homeless to affordable housing to the sharing of culture. I’ve lived in 3 homes within 10 minutes of each other and they were in 3 different districts. This seems utterly ridiculous, as they are all truly a part of the urban Salt Lake community.

Additionally, my community has a lot of elderly couples, who have lived here for years, mixed with a influx of millennial couples/young families moving into the neighborhood. It is a tight-knit community but faces a lot of change (most optimistic)
Economic or Environmental Interests
We have an explosion of industry growth, which is great other than the influx of people moving into the state, and driving up housing needs. The natural growth rate of utah alone puts ever mounting pressure on housing demands, but coupling that with tech employees swooping in with all cash offers on family homes has hurt working utah families in their housing needs. High density housing has limited success (in terms of family housing) because of lack of public transit and walkability, coupled with lack of adequate parking for family vehicles in already populated neighborhoods. I am interested in local economic development, zoning solutions, and a effective growth of public transit
Community Needs and Concerns
Everyone in the valley suffers from smog and smoke from the valley, surrounding areas, and even other states. The pollution has measurable differences in our health. We need accessible public transit, walkable communities, and access to healthcare in each community (rising house prices pushes many families farther from employment or necessities, contributing to driving pollution).

People like to go to restaurants and do outside activities such as biking, walking, running and going to the park. Many of the house have Black Lives Matter signs and other signs showing support of the broad community and diversity.
Community Activities and Services
My community of interest lives in an urban setting and has needs based on that situation such as transportation, housing, need for parks, love of the arts, access to healthcare, access to schools, access to higher education, and jobs. I believe my community desires infrastructure that supports a dense population such as walkable neighborhoods and serious urban planning to help with commuting.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is from the foothills and includes the city, university area and avenues. People are very concerned about the polluted air we breath. Many people ride bikes. I believe people work in the city, at the University, and telecommute. Some probably work along the Wasatch Front. Housing is VERY expensive in my community and traffic is becoming worse as more and more apartments are built without road or transportation infrastructure to support it.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is an urban area, it is a city with distinct city needs which include a diverse population, transportation, pollution, infrastructure support, poverty, etc. It SHOULD NOT be connected to rural areas that have representatives and populations who do not understand or benefit from solutions that serve and benefit my community. I feel like this is a SIGNIFICANT problem. Representatives from rural areas make decisions for my community that benefit their communities rather than mine -- often their decisions are detrimental to my community.

Utah Legislature has no sustainable growth strategy for the state. "More" doesn't work any longer when we cannot breathe the air or have equitable water use policies with climate change. Danger: REPORT Aug. 20, 2021
transportation diversity education environment suburban
Cultural or Historical Interests
My extreme local community (Emigration Cyn) is predominantly white, middle-aged, and affluent. Diversity (in terms of age & ethnicity) is largely priced out of my area. That is unfortunate. I appreciate and support the relatively more diverse population of Salt Lake City proper. It is distressing to me that my US Congressional representation (House no. 2) includes large portions of the state with which I have little in common with.
Community Activities and Services
My community comprises: the roads and trails of Emigration Canyon, the city & county parks in Salt Lake area, the University of Utah (w/ its myriad peoples, needs, and services) as well as University of Utah Health/medical services, public schools, public libraries, and public transportation. Importantly, it also includes the Granite School District, as that is public school district provided to my children and others living in Emigration Canyon. My community activities and concerns have little to do with others in the huge rural areas of Congressional District no. 2. That district does not even include the public schools that my children & others in my area attend.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Emigration Canyon is a suburban area bordering on (relative) wild lands. My concerns here are watershed protection, continued development that the infrastructure (water, roads, septic) cannot support, protection of open spaces and trails, and wildfire. There is no public transportation available. Air quality in the Salt Lake valley is deteriorating. My economic concerns include skyrocketing real estate costs, such that young people cannot invest in a home in Salt Lake City/County. My family shops, attends school, & participates in activities along the East Bench of the county, which is divided into 3 different USCongressional districts.
Community Needs and Concerns
It is distressing to me that my Congressional district, no. 2, cuts Salt Lake County into parts. We are the major urban/suburban area in Utah, yet the valley is divvied up between THREE house districts. The needs of my community, including its schools (Granite School District), are not well represented in Congress. Emigration Canyon community is outside the boundary of SLCity, yet we rely on City roads, stores, health services, etc. My State Board of Ed district (#7) also does not include the schools my kids attended (#8), which has made it difficult for me to know who on the BofEd I should communicate with regarding my concerns.

My community if full of many people from all over the world who have moved here for economic opportunity or to be close to the mountains, these are people who have come to this Valley to find a home among other travelers. My community is proud to be the most racially and ethnically diverse community in the state, we celebrate all cultures, all races, all genders, all sexual oreintations, and all ways of being. We acknowleldge that we live on the stolen land of the Goshute and Eastern Shoshone people.
Community Activities and Services
People in my community social in city parks, in neighborhood bars and restaurants, in backyards, and perhaps most importantly in the Canyons of the Wasatch Front. People access services through community organizations, public libraries and other public access points, and through access to alternative travel like TRAX, bike paths, and skating.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Residents are employed in caretaking, nursing, service industry, restaurants, tourism, recreation, non-profit, and online retail industries, and real estate. Environmental concerns in my neighborhood include poor air quality and poor city planning/land use policies that encourage luxery housing instead of affordable housing. We are also tired of the lack of action on emmissions reduction and need to plan for climate change resilience as the summers get hotter and smokier.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is so very tired of being ignored and we have a legitimate grievance for being gerrymandered out of our rightful, proportional representation in federal government. This state's practice of gerrymandering is toxic to our democracy and poisons the will of good people to want to engage in a system that systemactically supresses their vote.

Cultural or Historical Interests
Urban Salt Lake City is more affluent, educated, professional, and ethnically diverse than any other area of Utah. The state's dominant religious biases apply here to significantly less degree. We're dedicated to preserving a tolerant, open community for all minorities and the LGBTQ+ among us. The demands of urban living draw us to proactive, cooperative, problem solving as needed, not as bound by static status quo.
Community Activities and Services
My community is urban Salt Lake City.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is interested in clean air and water, access to pristine public lands, and the preservation of untrammeled wilderness. We want to reduce urban sprawl, advance bicycle infrastructure, create viable public transit, transition to battery electric vehicles, and solve problems of the unhomed community. We don't want to sell our public lands for oil or mining exploitation by the company most able to buy and sell politicians.
Community Needs and Concerns
My urban community is concerned by our historical under-representation: Urban Salt Lake is absurdly gerrymandered among all four of our state's congressional districts. Under this unnatural system, political power lies in rural communities that share few needs, concerns, interests, or community identity with Urban Salt Lake City. Urban SLC is concerned with mitigating Covid-19 (vaccination, masking, social distancing, and vaxx passports); with preserving a social safety net; with ensuring easy access to the ballot box for all communities, ethnic groups, and minorities. Urban SLC is concerned with managing our highest-in-nation growth.

Federally, I am represented by the same person who represents Saint George while many of my friends and co-workers whose houses I can drive to in 5 minutes are represented by someone else. It's bizarre. My broader community has been sliced and diced so that we are split up and not represented by people who share our same values. At the state level, our current borders seem to do a good job at keeping my immediate community together and represented by people who share out values.

Cultural or Historical Interests
Historically Layton was a suburb/farming interface. We still have many farms and fruit orchards in Layton, both on the east and west side of Layton. However, more of this farming land is being developed for housing. Culturally, we are a melting pot thanks to Hill AFB. Our neighborhood is one of affordable housing. Most of it seems to be homeowners, with probably 30% of homes having renters. Income levels tend to be lower middle class.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of people who send their kids to Davis School District. We recreate at Layton Commons Park. We have a decent amount of people who utilize the UTA Frontrunner to head into downtown and Ogden to work, though we have a large population who work at Hill Air Force Base. Otherwise, many people commute outside of Layton for work.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We are a military community with Hill AFB nearby. Many civilians work here, and military servicepeople live in our city. We have some agricultural interests, and the only mall in Davis County.
Community Needs and Concerns
West and Central Layton tends to be made up of younger families, with East Layton being made of more affluent middle age to older Utahns. Because the agriculture is interspersed with suburban interface, it would make sense to keep Layton all in one district. It would likely be most suited to be in a district with Syracuse, then maybe Kaysville, as Syracuse is more similar to Layton in its makeup. There is a fierce community pride in Layton, so dividing the city would not be wise. There is mixed concern over housing. Many say we need to stop building such dense housing/apartments and want to preserve green and open spaces or build single family homes.

I consider all of the Salt Lake valley to be my community in the sense that the city and country share the concerns of urban dwelling and enjoy the concomitant cultural opportunities. Salt Lake City has attracted likeminded people who prefer to live among diversity and heterogeneity as opposed to the more insular rural counties, or the homogeneous communities like Davis & Utah counties. Salt lake county is unique in the state with its larger ethnic and LGBTQIA+ populations, and diversity of religious affiliations.

Cultural or Historical Interests
This area is more diverse than most parts of our state, but still predominantly European/White and English-speaking. Religion is mixed. Age groups vary broadly. We have older people aging at home, and young families. We also have a very nice senior living residence that includes assisted living and memory care. Or downtown area has its roots in what I would call industrial times and has evolved from production to retail. Most housing is old construction. Earliest being mid-century. Preservation of the old-looking character of our homes and buildings, even if they are brand new, is important to us. So are smaller sizes of homes/apartments. We are mostly outdoorsy.
Community Activities and Services
Within walking distance of my house, we have two parks (one includes a community garden), two creeks, a crossroads small store/restaurant area (1500 south, 1500 east), and a neighborhood "downtown" district that is mixed retail, restaurants, apartment living, healthcare, and a library. We can walk to numerous grocery stores and drug stores. Walkability and alternative transportation are very important to our area. We support small local businesses over box-store-type retail stores and restaurants. We can walk to a trolly line that will connect us to a light rail that can get us to the airport easily. It's easy to get to schools, churches, and the University is an easy bus ride away.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We are located near two creeks, some small trails, and some decent biking areas. An easy 20-minute drive into the wilderness. Most people in my neighborhood have a high appreciation for our natural surroundings and are actively engaged in things like skiing, biking, fishing, hiking, boating, camping, climbing, etc. Work/life balance is good here. Commute times are short, and leisure time is a priority. I believe the area is mostly economically sound. There's very little turnover in small businesses in the area as businesses are intentionally well-supported by the locals. (If we sense one is in trouble, we will rally to support.)
Community Needs and Concerns
I think there are several issues of immediate concern in our area: 1) Maintaining the old, unique, character of our housing as much as possible. I don't think people are at all opposed to affordable housing, but highrise buildings, esp. one's out of character from the 30s/40s/50s style, are destructive to our charm. 2) Improving air quality and water quality/supply. Lately, there is strong interest in re-landscaping to eliminate thirsty planting, there is strong interest in solar programs to reduce our carbon footprint. There is a strong overall desire to explore alternatives to coal, oil, gas, due to global warming and air quality issues. 3) affordable housing 4) wilderness preservation.
