Cultural or Historical Interests
The cultural bonds of our community is the National Park. We all love the wildlife, the landscape, the specialness of this place and our role as stewards and ambassadors of this special place.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of NPS concessionaire employees that live in Yellowstone National Park. We rely largely on services outside of the park because of the special nature of where we live. It is remote, it is a federal enclave, we are limited to a few health clinics for health care. We meet each other in government housing areas and surrounding gateway towns. In the winter the roads are closed and we rely on each other. We travel by snowmobile. We do not have public school access in Wyoming.
Economic or Environmental Interests
All residents are employed or are spouses/partners of the National Parks Service or a concessionaire. We face air quality concerns from vehicle traffic both in summer and winter time. We also face uniques water quality issues based on our water sources.
Community Needs and Concerns
We need to be considered as a whole not split into two geographic groups. We need better and easier access to drivers licenses, state and county services, healthcare access, school access. Because we live in a federal enclave, being represented as a whole will help us be better represented in the democratic process. We need to be one voice that is also connected with the south of the park with the other National Park Service units (John D. Rockefeller Jr. Parkway, and Grand Teton National Park).
