transportation housing education environment
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community spans the Snohomish River Watershed. It includes agricultural areas, industrial areas, cities and resource lands. Rapid growth has impacted the function of the watershed as it traverses different kinds of communities and enters the Puget Sound. Planning must be designed to bring human population into balance with the natural environment.

Federal Way Community
Aug. 27, 2021
transportation housing diversity education environment
Cultural or Historical Interests
Federal Way, my city, is the 20th most diverse city in America, and nearby cities like Kent and Renton are respectively the 8th and 13th most diverse in the nation. Suffice to say, there are many significant ethnic, religious, and immigrant populations, including many people from Kenya, Nigeria, Ukraine, Russia, Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, the Indian Subcontinent, and more.
Community Activities and Services
My community is a bedroom community for both Tacoma and Seattle, which it's the midpoint between. It shares many amenities and features with nearby towns and cities that do the same.
Economic or Environmental Interests
As a bedroom community, retail is a large segment of our commercial base – many commute to Tacoma or Seattle for industrial and F500 positions. Environmentally, the community is both coastal (Puget Sound) and served by a variety of arterial waterways, significant creeks, and abundant natural spaces.
Community Needs and Concerns
We need local leaders fighting for jobs, worrying that our schools are underserved compared to those in larger metro areas, and concerned about environmental exploitation. The area suffers from high poverty and economic neglect, and quality representation would help a great deal.

Community Activities and Services

Economic or Environmental Interests
Many of our residents work for the local school district and the Bremerton shipyard. Many are also retired Navy.
Community Needs and Concerns
We need to keep our district in a solid, reasonable shape--neither oddly splayed into the west side of Bremerton nor over the Hwy 16 bridge into Tacoma. Contiguous and easy for citizens to access all the Town Halls of our State Representatives.

Bremerton
May 15, 2021
Economic or Environmental Interests
Many residents of Bremerton are employed at Puget Sound Shipyard. Historically, Bremerton brought in many people of color to work at the shipyard during WWII and their descendants still live there. During WWII, people of color were restricted to defined areas within the city and those areas still have a largely black population although there has been a lot of changes in that over the years.

Inclusive River City
March 1, 2021
Population: 23479
Cultural or Historical Interests
Our city was the original County Seat, although that ended long ago. However, we have preserved the historic district and homes near the river. We appreciate our history an care about keeping it alive.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community lies along a beautiful river. We rely, in part, on tourism activity that brings visitors to our historic district. We care about the health of the river, and about having a green city with many parks and amenities.
Community Needs and Concerns
Our community is politically 'purple', a true mix of consevative and progressive. As a left-leaning resident, I care about having affordable housing, equitable and available services, and encouraging more voices in our public processes. I worry that we are gentrifying. Social justice issues are very real here.

Cultural or Historical Interests
My neighborhood is known and the gayborhood, but that has been changing as the area has become more expensive to live. It has always been a place to gather.
Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of the people who live around me. It's a dense neighborhood full of restaurants, bars, schools, parks, social services, businesses, and lots of multi-story buildings full of families.
Economic or Environmental Interests
I primarily work in entertainment and cultural organizations. The amount of cars on the road make it difficult to get around on transit and makes the air more polluted.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community has many people who are living in supportive housing, many former incarcerated among them. I think this population should be kept together, as many need the same kinds of services.

Snohomish County Mapping Drive
Feb. 19, 2021
Population: 11000
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is a suburban extension to Everett and Seattle and therefore has attracted working families and retired persons. This area was used as source of food for indigenous Salish tribes before the white Europeans settled by the water to set up logging and mills about 150 years ago. Whites predominated until transportation and employment opportunities allowed access to other population groups which still represent minority percentages over the last 30 years.
Community Activities and Services
I am within walking distance to downtown Edmonds and ferries, railroads, buses, fire and police departments, parks, library, healthcare, restaurants, tourist/gift stores, church, beaches, and a small grocery store limited to non perishable goods.
Economic or Environmental Interests
I live on a critical slope over railroad tracks and by a hazardous chemical clean up site overlooking a marsh.
Community Needs and Concerns
Edmonds has grown toward the transportation systems: I5 and Highway 99. These areas do not have the same sense of community as does downtown Edmonds. Therefore, they are neglected as is shown by higher homeless and crime statistics. Edmonds used to be a sleepy little town but now competition for housing has made it difficult for a diversified community of renters and home owners. Folks are being priced out of their homes due to higher property taxes or purchase prices or rental rates.

Population: 80752
Cultural or Historical Interests
The Tacoma narrow bridge is famous for it collapsing. The first american tribes who where originally on this land are not recognized and they should be. I go to Gig Harbor across the bridge as much as I go to down town Tacoma.
Community Activities and Services
While I travel to Seattle often, but would like to stay in West end more. I value the areas like Titlow park, Steilacoom shoreline and Fort Steilacoom dog park, and Chambers Bay golf and recreation area.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The West end of Tacoma is an affluent area without much contact with the the lower income areas of Tacoma. I'm interested in preserving the environment aspect of this area like Point Defiance park and Tacoma Narrows.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community extends South into University Place, and the north of tacoma, and then in Seattle. I do not go to the east side of I-5 (Tacoma) much except when I go to the asian market. There are lots of military families in lakewood and farther south, but I dont have much contact with them.
