Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is located close to Summerville but has not been incorporated so my interests align more with those in the upper part of the community than those in Summerville proper.
Community Needs and Concerns
My district includes the people of my county whose interest is very different to those in the next county. Much of the industry and commerce is right on the border of my county but I am in a district with people from this district and their economic issues are very different from mine. This is especially true for the interests of my school district that is one of the lowest funded in the state.

Hilton Head Island NonPlantation Community
March 25, 2021
Population: 6108
Cultural or Historical Interests
Prior to the civil war, this island was forest and slave-dependent plantations. Following that war, it was left to those slaves, called the Gullah. Lumber barons invaded in the 1940s-50s, followed by developers. The Gullah have now been pushed to the north end of the island, between widening street/highways and the airport. Their land area--and their political representation--continues to decrease.
Community Activities and Services
My community (North Forest Beach) used to be a neighborhood. It is now taken over by rental properties that are, in essence, mini-hotels/people warehouses, that could never be used as homes. Residents who aren't in gated communities (named "plantations") are most affected by tourism. We are being forced to leave the island because taxes have risen so high.
Economic or Environmental Interests
I live--actually live--in a community that is increasingly devoted to encouraging tourism and construction, to the detriment of actual residents, the environment, the indigenous community (the Gullah), traffic, & the water system. The Town has increasingly ignored laws and limits , in deference to the interests of the tourism and developers. Current districting has contributedat to these interests having an undue share of representation at the Town, County, & State levels.
Community Needs and Concerns
This community is controlled by wealthy, politically conservative businessmen. Politically conservative candidates are virtually guaranteed to be elected--and often run unopposed. Minorities are subtly and overtly discouraged from voting and politically liberal candidates have little chance of being elected. I would like to see minority & politically liberal residents not involved in tourism and development to be represented in as many districts as possible.

Economic or Environmental Interests
We are a coastal community that agrees we want to protect our waterways for recreation, seafood for consumption, and to protect sea life.
Community Needs and Concerns
I don't think our SC House District 115 should include Kiawah and Seabrook Islands: they should be with Johns Island. District 115 (which is Folly Beach and most of James Island) should pick up the rest of James Island and if needed to pick up more voters, should go into Johns Island or West Ashley. The people of Folly/James Island share a coastline with Kiawah and Seabrook but not much else.
