Community Activities and Services
Most of the people I know in my community have children so many of our activities are related to the schools. Many people are also employed at the University. On the weekends, we gather at local parks and preserves: Autumn Hill, Herrontown Woods, Smoyer Park, Community Park and Mountain Lakes. We also use the tow path along the Delaware-Raritan canal. Carnegie Lake sits on one edge of Princeton and is fed by the Stonybrook Stream. In terms of shopping, many people go downtown or to the Princeton Shopping, but many also go to businesses on the US 1, such as Trader Joe's or to Costco and Quakerbridge Mall. The hospital is on the US 1.

Community Activities and Services
My community is made up of people who go to Congregation Rinat Yisrael. The synagogue provides religious services, as well as educational subsidies, religious learning for adults and children, and is the fulcrum of the local Jewish community.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The community is mostly commuters to New York City, but many now work from home or work within the community. The main environmental issues are the local Hackensack River's pollution, as well as runoff from the trains.

Bradley Beach coastal communities
Princeton Gerrymandering Project
PGP Mapping Drive for New Jersey State Redistricting
Feb. 11, 2022
Population: 102017
transportation diversity education small businesses public transit
Cultural or Historical Interests
There is a 23% minority population and a growing Latino population shared among Bradley Beach, Asbury Park, Longbranch, Neptune, and Redbank. The elementary school is over half Latino. The communities in this area share a church in Asbury Park. Bradley Beach was historically a part of Neptune Township and thus shares close ties with it.
Community Activities and Services
Bradley Beach has close connections with its Asbury Park and Longbranch neighbors. Bradley Beach students feed the Neptune and Asbury Park schools.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Bradley Beach shares an economic corridor with Asbury Park. There are many small businesses in downtown area, which is similar to Longbranch, Asbury Park, and Redbank. Bradley is sustained by summer tourism like these other coastal towns. Bradley shares state highway 71, which is Bradley Beach's main street, with Asbury and Longbranch. It also shares the NJ Coastline train with these communities.
Community Needs and Concerns
The proposed Turnpike map treats Bradley Beach best. Bradley Beach shares coastal interests with Asbury Park and Longbranch. Bradley Beach should stay in LD11.

Community Activities and Services
School districts and recreational programs are shared throughout Morris County.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Morris County towns and communities share shopping areas throughout the county.
Community Needs and Concerns
Proposed Turnpike map problematically slices Morris County/central Morris County communities up among 7 districts. There is no continuity of interest, connections, or travel corridor from Florham Park up through Franklin Lakes, as Turnpike draws it. Parsippiny has no meaningful connections to Mahwah, but the Turnpike map connects them.

Economic or Environmental Interests
Lake Hopatcong thrives on seasonal ecotourism and needs attention to lake cleanliness to support the economy. The State has provided $13million in funds to address recent environmental issues after the local state senator failed to address those concerns. Federal pandemic funding has also had to be directed to lake stewardship.
Community Needs and Concerns
Lake Hopatcong’s interests will be well-served by competitive district. The proposed Parkway map is the best option thus far.

Population: 47875
LGBT+ education environment blue-collar
Cultural or Historical Interests
Growing LGBTQ population.
Community Activities and Services
Neptune City school district has close relationships/feeds into Neptune Township and Redbank schools, which are in LD11. Parkway map splits Redback into LD13. School-related interests will thus problematically be spread out among 3 different representatives under that configuration.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Neptune City is a working class community with a significant minority population in affordable housing. The City is connected to the ocean via Shark River. Officials and environmental organizations do a lot of work to clean and improve the health of the river. Wall Township has historically opposed environmental reforms Neptune City supports. Sharing LD30 with Wall will prevent these environmental concerns from being addressed.
Community Needs and Concerns
Proposed Parkway map problematically removes Neptune City from LD11 to LD30, which would be detrimental for the town. Neptune City's interests are more in line with Asbury Park and Neptune Township than with other communities in Parkway LD30. Parkway LD30 leadership may be too focused on Lakewood and other larger areas at the expense of Neptune City's interests. Neptune City has historically been in LD11 and should remain there.

South Brunswick hosts cultural and religious festivals (like Diwali) every year for people from nearby Montgomery and Princeton. Many Muslim residents stay and celebrate in South Brunswick instead of going to Edison. South Brunswick is the hub of Middlesex County for Asian residents. It is the home of the Islamic Center of NJ, which is one of largest mosques and cultural centers in the state. That Center is expanding to include housing and sports complex projects. It serves people from Mercer and Somerset counties, as well as South Brunswick.
Community Activities and Services

Community Activities and Services
West NY, Union City, and Weehawken are closely united, with residents travelling between the towns and Bergenline Ave. uniting Union City with North Hudson. Northern Hudson County has its own fire department, public service organizations, and mayors council that provides services to residents.
Community Needs and Concerns
North Hudson County towns (West New York, Union City, and Weehawken) are closely connected and should be kept together. Union City should not be separated from these towns but should be in the same district as these towns. The Turnpike map splits Jersey City into 3 districts in a nonsensical way. Jersey City should be split the same way it was split from the 1980s to the 2000s, with its northern portion in LD32. LD33 should then cover West NY, Guttenberg, Union City, Weehawken, and Hoboken. Plainsboro has a significant Asian American population, as does West Windsor and other surrounding areas. Keeping Plainsboro in a separate district from West Windsor will create multiple districts in which Asian American communities may have more opportunity to influence elections.
Community Activities and Services
West Windsor and Plainsboro share a school district, but the towns are very distinct otherwise. It makes sense to keep them in separate districts. The school district has not suffered adverse effects from the towns being in separate districts.

District 15 is majority minority. West Windsor is 40% foreign born: a significant immigrant community. Plainsboro is more similar to West Windsor than other towns in district 15.
Community Activities and Services
Plainsboro and West Windsor share a school district. District 15 has few high performing school districts (except for one high performing district), but District 14 has more high performing districts. The needs of students in lower performing schools with lower incomes in District 15 need to be respected just like the higher income/performance area in D15.
Economic or Environmental Interests
West Windsor’s median income is higher than other towns in D15. Route 1 and I-295 run through D15 and provide a large NEC transportation route. There are also growing Puerto Rican and Mexican communities which include small business owners.
Community Activities and Services
Growing arts community downtown. Government grants have helped with this development. Mount Holly and Medford also share these qualities.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Hammonton is an agricultural community with commuters to Atlantic City and Philadelphia. These are shared characteristics with Shamong, Medford Lakes, and Medford which gives the area shared legislative interests.
Community Needs and Concerns
Hammonton should remain in District 8. Differences between Hammonton and Shore makes District 8 better fit than District 9.

Community Needs and Concerns
Somers Point should remain in District 2, and not be moved into District 1. Replacement into D1 would cause confusion for many citizens. For example, the current legislative office is a couple miles away in D2. If we were moved into D1, the nearest office would be 23mi away with no direct bus route (This is a 1h 48min trip)! Lastly, Somers Point is not contiguous with D1 but rather separated by water and toll ways.

Cultural or Historical Interests
Lots of the people in our community grew up here, and chose to buy homes and raise their own families here; other people moved to our community because of the schools. Locally, we typically refer to the community as SP-F, for Scotch Plains-Fanwood. While still predominantly white, like much of New Jersey we’ve seen growth in the population of people of color in our community. 21 We have a rich diversity of populations here, and we take pride in that diversity. We have two historically Black neighborhoods, as well as a historically strong Italian community here. In recent years, we’ve seen growth in our Latin, East Asian, and particularly South Asian populations.
Community Activities and Services
Fanwood is roughly a square mile in size, and surrounded on three sides by Scotch Plains Township. The two municipalities share a school district and, in many ways, we see ourselves as one large community.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Our community is, in some ways, a lot like Westfield, the municipality immediately east of us. We are similar in socio-economic ways, and many of the people from SP-F shop, attend religious services, and socialize with friends in Westfield. Both communities are known for their schools. To our west is the City of Plainfield. While our racial and socioeconomic makeup is different from Plainfield, increasingly businesses and friendships draw people across the border in both directions.
Community Needs and Concerns
It’s important that we keep Scotch Plains and Fanwood together in the same District, since we really do see ourselves as one community.

Community Activities and Services

My community includes East Orange Campus High School, East Orange STEM Academy, Sojourner Truth Middle School, and Main Street in Orange, New Jersey. We only have one Whole Foods in our area, which is expensive and creates a financial barrier to healthy foods.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is a lot like Newark, another urban community in the area that has gun violence and limited access to healthy food places. On the other hand, we see places like Millburn and West Orange, Verona, and other communities that do not face similar problems.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community is split between the 10th and the 11th Congressional Districts, and is in the 34th Legislative District.Gun violence and access to healthy foods in East Orange are important issues to us. We see gun violence happening on a daily basis. Every day, we hear about shots-fired incidents, and there are no arrests being made -- only open investigations. There's a big burial site - Split Rock, where people go for spiritual sessions.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We're economically a very diverse people. Many of the people are blue collar workers, who do physical labor. But others do white collar jobs. There is a stigma for Ramapough people in the area, so many have moved away. Many of us are veterans, and have joined the service to escape that local stigma.
Community Needs and Concerns
The Ramapough people could use more job opportunities, better education, affordable housing. In Ringwood is a superfund site that is still not cleaned up, and needs to be. The Ramapo River has had oil spills right there in Mahwah, there was diesal fuel that leaked where people swam and fished. In Tuxedo Park in New York there was a home heating oil trucks that were flooded and leaking into the river. Many environmental justice issues.

My community is mostly African American with a significant Latinx and white population as well. Many community members commute to Philadelphia, but many others work in the surrounding area. There's a mix between people who rent and people who own. Many people in the area have been based here for generations, but others have just moved to the area in recent years. The area is a great, diverse mix of people.
Community Activities and Services
There's a strong Christian background many residents have, and lots of established churches in Trenton such as Shiloh Baptist Church. People like to eat and shop in the surrounding area - Rats Restaurant in Hamilton; Palmer Square in Princeton; Quaker Bridge mall in Lawrenceville; people attend public schools like Ewing High; Steinert High School. People go to Capital Health; St. Francis Hospital for healthcare. Many people go out in Cadwalader Park, Mill Hill Park, Moody Park, Trenton Thunder Stadium, the Delaware River and parks along the river are also places people like to go.
Economic or Environmental Interests
There are many people who work in blue collar jobs for the state of New Jersey. There is a good mix of service industry jobs in the surrounding area, as well as a lot of white collar jobs in pharmaceutical, legal, and finance fields.
Community Needs and Concerns
There are issues with transportation and healthcare access. Mercer Hospital in downtown Trenton closed. There's a lack of sufficient walkable services in Trenton generally; housing, job opportunities. The area also lacks healthy and affordable food options. People may need to leave the immediate area for healthcare and other services. There's significant older, vacant housing stock in the area and not much investment to fix it up.

There are numerous affordable housing developments which are being constructed, supporting our communities great economic diversity. Robert Wood Johnson is centered in our community. Community Needs and Concerns
Because of depressed economic conditions in certain communities, there is a heightened level of criminal activity. We need economic programs to support those communities and additional low income housing and a strategy to address homelessness. It's also vital to expand public transportation beyond the core of downtown New Brunswick, so that everyone can access jobs and vital services.

Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is the African-American community of Winslow and Sicklerville. Many of the residents in my immediate area are retired. Some residents have moved here from other places and settled, others have lived here for generations. Some residents are transitional. There is a small-town mindset to the area which is very nice - people know each other and have strong ties and relationships. People are very proud of the community, it is a great place to raise children. Much of the area are homeowners in rural areas, but there is also a significant portion of renters living around transit hubs. The area is growing.
Community Activities and Services
Winslow is a twp with many sections. There are about many faith communities in the area which people attend: Christ Care Missionary Baptist Church (provides many community services bishop been there 40 years, 70 acres w/ apartments, Sr. homes); Winslow Baptist Church; United Methodist Church; and more. There is a mosque nearby, the Islamic Community of S. Jersey in where many Muslims worship. Right in the heart of Sicklerville there are barber shops, nail salons, and a great downtown area. Williamstown New Freedom Road is also a major commercial area. Schools are Winslow High (formerly Edgewood), and Winslow Middle School - a new school district as of 2001 to accommodate growth in the area.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Many people in the area work in Philadelphia and commute. Others work in the casinos in Atlantic City. The workforce is very diverse, with white collar and blue collar workers. The area has high employment, but many people work outside of the community and return to live. Of the people who live in the area, some people work in factories in Winslow and Sicklerville, others work in services and retail in the area. The area has an excellent transportation network.
Community Needs and Concerns
Winslow is divided into four wards, with a mayor and eight council people. The local electeds are very responsive. The area could absolutely use more recreational facilities (playground, etc.) for an area of 40K residents, and recreational facilities that are culturally appropriate to the people who live in the area. We need programs for students, particularly after school, to keep children safe, learning, and occupied when they're not in the classroom. There have been conversations for years about a recreation center which has not materialized yet. The third ward is the one w/ the most open land & least parks; organizations must use the schools for recreational and social activities.

My community, central ward, has a lot of black and brown folks. However, the area is also the central business district so there are a lot of diversity of people and businesses. It is a fast paced community. There are a lot of new residents, you can see the gentrification really happening in Central Ward. There are many new younger adults that have moved from NYC and commute to NYC. In South Ward you have a lot of people who have been in the area for generations.
Community Activities and Services
There are a lot of government centers in the area. There are educational institutions. There's a community college, Rutgers, NJIT. We're surrounded by a lot of schools - Newark Tech, Essex Co. College, Arts High School, Saint Benedict's High School. There are two major of hospitals - UNDMJ, and St. Michaels. There's Washington Park, Military Park, and Lincoln Park. Those parks have been there for decades.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The Central Ward is the downtown area of Newark. It is like the hub of the eateries and stores on Broad Street and Market Street - there's a supermarket, bodegas, law enforcement, entertainment (NJ Pac, Prudential Center), and mom and pop shops. The closest mall is the Jersey Gardens outlet mall in Elizabeth, which is about 10-15 minutes away. We also have Newark Penn Station, a major transit hub, and also a place where people without addresses reside.
Community Needs and Concerns
The Central Ward struggles with a drug epidemic (pills) and crime. The other major concern are residents without address in the area. The area could use more affordable housing and quality jobs. There is also a lot of food insecurity - we need more places where people can get healthy and affordable food options. There is a Whole Foods, but that food is not very affordable and often are frequented by new residents who do not look like me.

Many people are civil servants that work for Newark Public Schools, Police, etc. Other groups work in warehouses. Many other people work for major hospitals in the area.
Community Needs and Concerns
Some issues facing the South Ward are resources - in terms of development within the community, from the community; The schools could use more resources. Teachers are overworked and underpaid. The Black population is also centered in Englewood and Hackensack. The area can be a transient area due to the industries in NYC. The Englewood community is a mixture of homeowners and renters, although there are more renters because people are often transient. In the last two years more people have purchased homes in the area to work from home. The area is really growing, and many new luxury apartments have been built (with some, but not enough affordable housing), which may be pushing out older residents.
Community Activities and Services
Most children in the community go to public schools in the area, whether that's Teaneck, Hackensack, or Englewood. There has been an uptick in Charter Schools in the area as well. People enjoy the county parks like McKay Park, Votee Park, Overpeck Park. People go to Englewood Hospital or Hackensack University medical center, and Holy Name hospital in Teaneck; People worship at Community Baptist Church (Englewood), there are a number of synagogues in Englewood and Teaneck, and a mosque in Teaneck. People spend time at the Court in Hackensack, that's where people hold rallys and other events. There are food truck conventions at the Garden State Plaza, which people enjoy. Also Bergen CC, & FDU
Economic or Environmental Interests
Major commercial areas around Palisades Ave is an area where people like to go out to eat; people shop at the Shops at Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack and the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. Residents are a mix of blue collar and white collar workers. There's a large community of nurses, entrepreneurs, and professionals that work in New York City and commute. Many residents take New Jersey Transit (Pascack Valley and Bergen Co Line) and the bus system, although less since COVID. Major highways are Rt 4 to the GWB, and Rt 95 which runs north and south which takes you to the Holland and Lincoln Tunnel, and Rt 3 is how people get to the city and come back. Home-improvement stores are big.
Community Needs and Concerns
Some major issues facing the community are access to mental health services; There's a need for more affordable equitable housing and senior services in the area as well. The education system can also be somewhat skewed - which can explain the emergence of charter schools. There's a need for equitable education across all the municipalities in the area.

West Windsor and Plainsboro also share much in common in their demographics. According to census data, Plainsboro is composed of around 60 percent Asian residents. Additionally, over half of my hometown was born in another country, including myself and all of my immediate family members. The immigrant population is an essential part of the fabric of both Plainsboro and West Windsor. Over 47% of residents in West Windsor identify as Asian, with 40% of West Windsor being born in another country.
Community Activities and Services
West Windsor and Plainsboro share a regional school district, the West Windsor-Plainsboro School System. Our towns share ten schools with each other: 2 high schools, 2 middle schools, and 6 elementary and upper elementary schools. Many families, like my own, moved to Plainsboro for the quality of the school district - one of the best in NJ. We have many South and East Asian places of worship, grocery stores, and businesses located in Plainsboro and West Windsor. Lastly, an inconvenient truth about living in Plainsboro is that we don’t have a gas station in my town, the closest one is in West Windsor. Our communities have a need to share resources and should share a representative as well.
Economic or Environmental Interests
West Windsor and Plainsboro share many of the same resources. The Princeton Junction Train Station is located in West Windsor. Many Plainsboro and West Windsor residents use this train station in order to access work in New York City.
Community Needs and Concerns
Education is an extremely important value to the residents of Plainsboro and West Windsor. From the West Windsor-Plainsboro Girl Scout troop that I was a member of, to the shared sports teams and summer camps, these towns share organizations and institutions that are important to be represented together. Currently, the needs of West Windsor-Plainsboro School District are not being advocated for together by a single representative.Plainsboro and West Windsor should be in the same Legislative district, without diluting the powers of communities of color or otherwise violating the law or Fair Redistricting Principles.

I’m a resident of North Bergen in Legislative District 32. LD 32 is over 75 percent people of color; it’s a majority Latino district, and one of only two in the state. The Asian population is also significant. This district, my district, has also seen significant growth in the past decade.
Community Activities and Services
One of the landmarks of our town -- probably the heartbeat of our town itself -- is Bergen Line Avenue. It’s a commercial district in our area. Bergenline Avenue also crosses into West New York, Guttenberg, and Union City. Union City is already in a different district. You shouldn’t let West New York be within a separate one as well. Many of our bigger parks and resources are in uptown. The big county park is on the other side of the town. It’s not the largest town, but we're bisected by the road that leads right into the Lincoln Tunnel, so it's difficult to go to the other side of town. As a result, kids in my neighborhood go play sports in Secaucus, which is easy to access
Community Needs and Concerns
In order to maintain “one person one vote” standards, we will need to shrink [the district] to comply with the State Constitution -- that means we’re going to have to lose a town or two. That’s fair. But it matters what towns we lose and how we change this district. One other town in this district is Guttenberg. We share a school district, kids in Guttenberg go to North Bergen High School. Consequently, it wouldn’t make sense to have them not be in the same Legislative district as we are.

We have a shared history of escaping oppressive governments and poverty in Latin America. We're resourceful and entrepreneurial; talented salsa dancers from Colombia and Puerto Rico have started dance school businesses, while others have established Latin American restaurants. We're muralists without access to public spaces that permit murals. Some have unauthorized immigrant status. We're a young community that often doesn't know our own history because it isn't taught in schools nor celebrated in local theaters or arts programs. Food, language, music, dance, and a shared colonization and migration history bond us. Many of us are Christian/Catholic though some follow a Liberation Theology
Community Activities and Services
We're an immigrant community from Latin America, living/working/socializing in Dover, Wharton, Rockaway, Mine Hill, Victory Gardens Parsippany, & Morristown. We speak Spanish, English, Portuguese, Indigenous and Creole languages. We're Christian, Catholic, or Agnostic & congregate at church. We also congregate in dance clubs, soccer fields, rivers, lakes, pools & the beach but lack transportation and affordable access to expensive "public" pools, lakes here in "Lakeland", & the Jersey Shore. The libraries lack Spanish-speaking librarians and programming that would be welcoming to us. We often get healthcare at clinics and hospital emergency rooms.
Economic or Environmental Interests
We lack access to federally-funded financial aid such as SNAP, Social Security benefits, and housing vouchers because of immigrant status, misinformation, illiteracy, lack of public transportation, or language barriers. We sublet rooms in our rented homes because of a lack of affordable housing, share rides to school for kids because of a lack of busing, and share rides to work due to the dire lack of public transportation. We're a working class & middle class community of domestic workers, factory workers, tax drivers, and some professionals with kids in overcrowded schools and limited access to affordable, quality healthcare. We live in flood zones & the environment is not protected.
Community Needs and Concerns
My working class immigrant community is in the 25th legislative district but the concerns and power of upper-class Bernardsville residents drown out ours. Our state legislators ignore us, especially those of us in Dover. Dover is the poorest community in Dover while Bernardsville is one of the wealthiest in the entire state. We have more in common with Parsippany and should be in the same legislative district as other communities in Morris County with significant working-class immigrant populations.

religion diversity Black multicultural government workers
Cultural or Historical Interests
Here in Atlantic City, this diverse community has a dominant Black and brown presence, many of whom are either essential workers for the City government or in the City’s notable consumeristic market of casinos, shops, restaurants, and more. However, Atlantic City is much more than this consumeristic market. There is a thriving, diverse community, full of rich history that is valuable. With Stockton’s unveiling of the Atlantic City campus, there’s now a diverse college student population within the City
Community Activities and Services
Growing up, I was heavily immersed in Atlantic City’s noteworthy church culture. It was not uncommon for me to be in Atlantic City at least two to three times a week for my family’s church, the Westminster Christian Worship Center; as well as visiting the other churches within the community on occasion.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Atlantic City is bordered by the Absecon Inlet on the north side of the City, and extends all the way to Jackson Avenue, the border separating Atlantic City from Ventnor. Within these 48 blocks you can see the casinos’ towering presence at any place in the City
Community Needs and Concerns
I implore this Apportionment Commission to make the right choice, whatever choice that may be, in making sure that the Black and brown voices of the Atlantic City community are not diluted and lost in the midst of the overpowering white majority of its current District.

Community Activities and Services
This area has two major anchor institutions that have grown significantly over the last decade: AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and Stockton University. Both are currently constructing new facilities in Atlantic City, and they have also expanded within the Galloway Township area over the years. AtlantiCare’s mainland campus is in Galloway; and most of our doctors’ offices are also in Galloway. Similarly, the students who reside in Stockton’s new Atlantic City dorms right across the street shuttle between here and Stockton’s main Galloway campus.
Community Needs and Concerns
Atlantic City and Galloway are not in the same legislative district. I believe these municipalities should be reunited. Keeping Atlantic City and Galloway divided between the 2nd and 9th Districts splits communities of common interests and diminishes the voting and advocacy power of Stockton students.

I’ve been a resident of Port Republic for the last 32 years. The population of my roughly seven-and-a-half square mile town is 1,121. It is situated in the northeast corner of Atlantic County, bordered on the north by the Mullica River and on the east by the waters of Great Bay.
Community Needs and Concerns
Historically, Port Republic residents voted with neighboring Galloway Township residents, and other citizens of Atlantic County, in Legislative District 2. I believe that redistricting the citizens of Port Republic into District 9 has done us a disservice. The Mullica River geographically isolates us from Ocean County. Like other residents of Port Republic and Galloway, I shop, attend church, dine at restaurants, and attend cultural and community events in Atlantic County. I rarely travel to the north, which is covered by District 9. I am unaware, uninformed, and to be perfectly honest, not very interested in the issues that are important to voters of the 9th Legislative District

Jan. 21, 2022
Population: 201211
Cultural or Historical Interests
The community is very diverse. Englewood and Hackensack have a growing Hispanic population, including growing Hispanic business downtown.

The South Ward of Newark is a predominantly African Community. It's a primarily young, but there are older families too. Many people have been here for a long time, although there are areas where houses have been torn town and built up, which do not have residents that have been like for a long time. Many people that live and grow up in the South Ward move far beyond Newark, there is a very established multi-generational community.
Community Activities and Services
Many people receive healthcare at Beth Israel Hospital; Many people attend Metropolitan Baptist Church, Saint Marks Baptist church. There are some charter schools off of Clinton Ave. There's Weequahic High School, Greater Oaks, Heshine; Elizabeth Avenue and the chancellor side of South Ward is socially and culturally connected to Hillside; People like to out to Green Acres, Weequahic Park is the biggest.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Along Clinton Ave there are a lot of mom and pop stores, many that come and go, and a few restaurants. The area is home to many blue collar workers, many people work in Newark or nearby.
There's insufficient access to preventative health or mental healthcare services. There's a lack of resources when it comes to sanitation and the upkeep of the community in general.

While the area is predominantly white, I saw many Black and Hispanic people outside walking with their kids, going to the park, or visiting Deterding’s supermarket right across the street. While growing up in that area, many of my friends were first generation citizens coming from households where their parents didn’t speak English fluently. Yet, they worked hard to become part of the community and made a life for themselves and their families. I think that the majority of people don’t see the diversity and culture of this area that is never-ending and always exciting
Economic or Environmental Interests
About 14% of my community lives in poverty. When most people hear Lindenwold Borough, they get a foul taste in their mouth since they are only familiar with what is displayed in the news or social media. They only retain information about the crime rate, which is said to be a significant percentage above the national crime average. However, to me, Lindenwold is the place I call home.
Community Needs and Concerns
I implore this Commission to make sure that my community’s voice is not overpowered by the white majority representation. Please, whatever decision is made, make sure that my community receives the attention that it deserves. We deserve to have our voice heard.

The concerns of Atlantic County are not necessarily the same as those of Ocean County. The presence of casinos in Atlantic City provides an example of issues that affect only Atlantic County. A major problem is that Galloway and Port Republic have no representation in the State Legislature. LD9’s political activities and campaigning take place in Ocean County only. We do not know who, if anyone, is running against the current incumbents since campaigning is geared toward Ocean County voters only.
Community Needs and Concerns
Both Galloway and Port Republic are the only towns in Atlantic County that are included in Legislative District 9, the bulk of which is in Ocean County. Geographically there’s no reason for this, except that the area is like a nodule attached to Ocean County. I recently read a newspaper article in the Press of Atlantic City which discussed the inclusion of 15 Atlantic County municipal courts into one central court. I doubt that the Assembly persons and Senator of Ocean County would find this of interest, and that’s understandable. I’m asking for your consideration in removing Galloway Township and Port Republic from LD9 and putting us in a district that is more compatible geographically

The major hospitals in the area are Atlantic Care in Atlantic City and Corona; and Shore Memorial in Somer's Point;
Economic or Environmental Interests
The majority of the community rents their homes. In Atlantic City proper only about 1/3 of the housing stock are residential houses. Community Needs and Concerns
Currently, Nutley is in the 28th district, but I believe this is a disservice to us. Half of the district is suburban and the other half lies in the inner-city. There’s an unwritten rule between the two Assembly people that one will cater to the needs of the suburbs, & the other will cater to the needs of the inner city. Nutley used to be in the 36th district - a better fit as Southern Berg and Southern Passaic were more homogenous groups. They also have common issues and interests. We have an extremely robust arts and cultural commission, as well as performing arts spaces, which unites our diverse community in art.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The New Brunswick campuses of Rutgers University are also major institutions in our district, with many students who are a part of our community. There are numerous affordable housing developments which are being constructed, supporting our communities great economic diversity. Robert Wood Johnson is centered in our community. Johnson and Johnson is a major employer.

Somerville Community
Jan. 14, 2022
Population: 11379
Cultural or Historical Interests
The Somerville community has changed a lot in recent years. There are many new businesses and residents who have moved into newly constructed townhomes. There are pockets of African Americans and Hispanics that have lived here for decades which are potentially getting displaced due to gentrification.
Community Activities and Services
The downtown area is very nice but very expensive, there are many cultural restaurants - a wide variety of different cuisine that people can experience. There are a variety of different churches (AMA, Shiloh Baptist on Davenport Street, St. Paul on Davenport, 1st Baptist on High Street, Emaculate Conception) which serves the diverse community - Somerville is the county seat, so the largest courthouse is, the county jail is in Somerville. Robert Wood Johnson has a major presence in Somerville, and they've taken control of the main hospital. Most students attend Somerville High School, the other high school in the area is Emaculata High School, also in Somerville. There's a Shop Rite.
Economic or Environmental Interests
It's about 50%/50% blue collar and white collar workers. The shopping district on main street has a lot of opportunity for mom and pop shops that are thriving, despite the very high rents. Many people to come to Somerville to shop and to dine. There are the Somerville bike races, which is a big event every year. Every Friday there's an old car show parked on main street, which brings a lot of tourists during the Spring and summer.
Community Needs and Concerns
The community is getting more expensive; the buildings which are being built are very large condominium buildings all over town in areas which have forced homeowners to sell so they can be built. It doesn't seem like the new condos are affordable for the residents who have been here before, even though they are supposed to have affordable housing.

New Jersey Communities of Interest
Jan. 14, 2022
Population: 21540
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is a diverse suburban community; there are many Hispanic, Indian, Black and white residents in my community. Many of the residents have been in the area for a long time, and most people own their homes.
Community Activities and Services
I buy my groceries at the Shop Rite in Bound Brook, it is up the street from a larger shopping center which has a Home Depot, Walmart, Target - as well as small stores such as a liquor store, and pizzaria. East Union Ave has a lot of restaurants and other smaller stores - doctors office, dentist; many people go to Somerset Center and it serves as a downtown for many residents of Bound Brook. There are many services that I and other members of the community take advantage of; Bound Brook High School is right around the corner. The closest hospital is St. Peters in New Brunswick down Easton Ave. There is no hospital in Bound Brook. I also attend Crunch Fitness Somerset.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Was originally classified as a flood zone, but it has been reclassified since then. Still, the community faced some pretty serious flooding issues during Ida. The Raritan River is a major part of the community but river road in particular faced major flooding issues in the past year. Opened up a few new Amazon hubs in the area, and a number of warehouses that people work out. The businesses in the area appear to be hiring and there appear to be significant job openings. Transportation is an issue, there are not that many buses, although there is good train service from Bound Brook station.
Community Needs and Concerns
Being so close to the Raritan River there have been flooding issues. There could be improved transportation.

Jan. 12, 2022
Population: 28256
Cultural or Historical Interests
My community is made of many immigrant people and their families from Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador (S. and Central America) in the Morristown Area. Our community is currently being impacted by gentrification, and there are many new commuters in our community who are commuting to New York City.
Community Activities and Services
I work at Wind of the Spirit which is located on Sussex Avenue in Morristown; I attend church at Saint Margarets Church in Morristown, right down the street. People in my community attend restaurants on South Street; and Starbucks off the Green. I also like to go out to Colombian Bakery or the Ecuadorian restaurants - we have a very diverse food scene in the area around Wind of the Spirit and off Speedwell Avenue. Most members in our community attend the public Morris School system, many people go to Morristown High School. Most people would go to Morristown Memorial Hospital or free Zufall Clinic by the High School, which is extremely useful for the community.
Economic or Environmental Interests
Many members of the community use New Jersey Transit to attend work; people also attend County College of Morris and they take the bus to get there. The majority of our community members work in food service in Morristown, some members also do landscaping in areas such as Madison, Dover, Parsimony, Wharton.
Community Needs and Concerns
Our community is very similar to other communities with immigrant communities such as Morristown/Dover/Rockaway Twp./Madison. In fact Wind of the Spirit has a strong membership in those areas, and it would be good if they were kept in the same district in the next round. Our communities are dissimilar to those more rural, whiter communities, such as Mendham, Denville, Bernardsville, Rockaway Boro to the South of Morristown and West of Dover. We are more similar to diverse commuter communities to the east.

Cultural or Historical Interests
I have lived in this area for my entire life and, as I have grown, the area has become increasingly Latino. I remember how more students in my school would bring cultural dishes to events and request Bachata music at school dances.
Community Activities and Services
My community encompasses Hasbrouck Heights, Bergen, Passaic, Hawthorn, Glenrock, Paramus, and Oradell. They are all roughly located in the 38th Legislative District
Community Needs and Concerns
I work in a pharmacy within the area and many of our customers speak Spanish. For most shifts, I help customers (in-person or over the phone) in Spanish. Frequently, customers are frustrated by the lack of services available in Spanish. We need legislators who understand our interests, the state is around 20% Latino yet only about 10% of legislators are Latino. My COI should be kept together.

Access to healthcare is an issue within my community. Many go to a clinic on Park Avenue due to their low-income.
Community Needs and Concerns
Congressional District 11 should not be split. Also, the progress to improve the schools within this area has been slow. For example, the overcrowding of schools was an issue beginning around the early 2000s but we did not see any improvement until around 2015.

Community Activities and Services
My community COI is Hunterdon County, it is small and rural (around 125,000 people). Flemington is in the center of our community
Economic or Environmental Interests
We have the world-famous Flemington Circle!
Community Needs and Concerns
Since the county is not held together in redistricting, people do not know who to turn to when they need assistance. I believe that the constitutional provision of keeping counties together is important.

Cultural or Historical Interests
This town is very white and Christian/catholic. I believe the bonds come from participation in religious institutions Vernon gets its identity from being a glacier valley and having many hiking trails and snow resorts. The town was founded for its “pristine” beauty and wildlife.
Community Activities and Services
At the shopping mall strip, Mountain Creek, and at Lake beachesThe only transportation services are for senior citizens. There is a bus that picks them up at their home. There is 1 urgent care facility in the community, but not hospital. There are 5 schools throughout the town.
Economic or Environmental Interests
- The only employment are services, so for people that work in-town, this would be fast food, retail, grocery and convenience stores. We also have 5 schools so there is a substantial number of educators. However, Vernon is mostly a commuter town- Vernon has many brownfield sites and abandoned parks that have not received attention or cleanup
Community Needs and Concerns
There are several boroughs within Vernon, and their boundaries often overlap with little consideration for the economic aspects of budgets. For example, two boroughs are separated by a single road, and lumped together in budget estimations, which results in both boroughs receiving insufficient funds.- Road work. There are many, dangerous, roads in Vernon because it is a high-altitude town and gets a lot of snow. The driving conditions, especially in winter, are treacherous and often lead to many accidents and vehicle breakdowns.
