Northside Neighborhood
Aug. 13, 2021

Cultural or Historical Interests
The Northside Neighborhood is a distinct part of the history and culture of Kalamazoo. A majority-black neighborhood, historically redlined and is the most underserved and poorest part of Kalamazoo. The Northside is one of the most history-packed parts of Kalamazoo. Historically, not only have black people lived in the Northside but also Italian immigrants in the 1900s who started moving in here when a large influx of Italians started emigrating from Italy. These communities were also redlined alongside black people here, however, there aren't many Italian immigrants left in the Northside.
Community Activities and Services
My community has a few small shopping strips, around 3 liquor stores, a beauty supply shop, and lots of Residential housing, most apartment or townhouse residencies are low-income housing for the unfortunate. There is one library, a branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library System, the Alma-Powell Branch, an anonymous gift from a rich Kalamazooian to provide a library to the poorest area of the city. There is one clinic the Family Health Center-Patterson, with their Dental Clinic across the street. There are 3 lines that service the Northside, 6, 7, and 15. However, the central bus station isn't a far walk, so there is also that option if you don't want to wait on a bus.
Economic or Environmental Interests
The Northside is located near the Kalamazoo River to the east, where a historic paper mill, a wastewater treatment plant are located. There are not a lot of job opportunities in the Northside besides service jobs. There is a big homelessness and poverty problem in the Northside.
Community Needs and Concerns
There is a large poverty and homelessness problem, as well as a drug problem. Gang activity isn't uncommon neither are shootings. This community has a lot of problems, but our elected officials don't seem to be offering enough good solutions.

Community Activities and Services
I am submitting a simple map covering Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods communities. Pointe Area Assistive Transportation Services (PAAT) is a service for seniors and people with disabilities. It's run by the HELM and funded with federal dollars. It provides much needed door to door transportation for medical appointments, shopping, and leisure activities. Regardless of the PAAT boundaries, funding is specifically for the residence of these communities. Services such as Uber and Lift are costly and often not accessible for travelers with disabilities. The river and the parks along its banks are the core for my community. It is where we gather and socialize. As an open outdoor space, it is also a place to understand the health of our community and its members. It is also where many services are offered to reach the most amount of people.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community is on the banks of a major river. It is largely used for recreation and fishing in our area making water quality and pollution an issue of concern. Most importantly, we are regularly impacted by flooding which is a concern for those living along the river.

My community is located along both shores of the Grand River, from the channel to Lake Michigan up to the Ottawa County line with Kent County. The river is a source for innumerable locals as well as visitors with small boats, kayaks, canoes, hikers, campers, wildlife watching, etc. It has been cleaned up since the days of waste pollution due to an inadequate sewer system in Grand Rapids, to the east. My community is concerned about over-development and maintaining the rural character of the river and its watershed.

Chesterfield Twp. Community
June 27, 2021
Community Activities and Services
My community includes many newly constructed subdivisions, but I'd like to see more green space added, such as neighborhood parks with amenities for all ages, including walking/biking trails. I would also like to have a separate paved walking/biking trail developed that connects Chesterfield Township with neighboring cities.More extensive public transportation should also be available for those who need it, to connect people to work, school and other activities.
Economic or Environmental Interests
My community has many railroad crossings and trains traverse at all hours with very loud horns. This is very disruptive to neighboring homes, especially at night. This can reduce property values over time. A sound pollution study would be helpful to determine the noise levels that the trains create. A new noise-level maximum could then be created that reduces the noise levels to limit sound pollution without sacrificing safety.
Community Needs and Concerns
My community lacks sidewalks on many main roads and some roads are unpaved, despite frequent traffic. I'd like to see paved roads and sidewalks added to at least one side of the main roadways to improve safety for drivers, walkers and bikers. Many city roads also need street lights to make walking and driving safer at night. Many of the mile roads and north/south roads have only one-lane in each direction, but traffic increases as the number of residents increases with new construction. These roads need two-lanes in each direction with center turn lanes to ease congestion.

My community is Monroe. It sits on the 1-75 corridor and Lake Erie and the River Raisin runs through it. This town of Monroe shares many economic , social, environmental issues with larger urban areas specifically downriver and Detroit. We’ve had a high amount of deaths and crime related to drugs specifically the opioid crisis. We have lost several large businesses before Covid 19 was an issue. Monroe is an easy stop off for drug and sex trafficking between Toledo and Detroit . Lake Erie a few years ago one had the worst algae problem in 50 years. I choose to map the Monroe sharing similar community of interests with Downriver and Detroit.

This COI has a particular interest in how & when the dams will be rebuilt, who will pay, and especially how they will be managed in the future to avoid another catastrophic dam failure due to negligence.
Community Needs and Concerns
The concerns of this COI are significant as there is no clear picture currently of how & when the failed dams will be rebuilt, who will pay, and especially how they will be managed in the future to avoid another catastrophic dam failure due to negligence. The COI was subjected to serious danger and considerable loss of property, in the middle of a pandemic, due to the negligence in dam upkeep.

Bay City as a whole
Feb. 8, 2021
Population: 30187
Cultural or Historical Interests
Our community has always been majority White, but traditionally different parts of town had different nationalities. The South End on the East Side was predominantly Polish. On the Southwest side of town the village of Salzburg was Germanic. The village of Winona and "The Banks" part of town French. Meanwhile a mix of English and Irish settlers mingled in Downtown and nearby Essexville.
Community Activities and Services
We have a very limited network of private support systems and are mostly reliant on ourselves and national organizations.
Economic or Environmental Interests
As a City that prides itself on it's history in manufacturing and manual labor from the lumber era into the middle 20th Century our City has been forced to turn to lower paying, seasonal jobs in the service industry
Community Needs and Concerns
Economic assistance for building living wage jobs and attracting educated talent is necessary to stop our City from losing population, specifically of those under the age of 60. Our infrastructure is some of the worst in the state and our unique position on the Saginaw River squandered.

I live in the Michigan 2nd Congressional District in the "Huizenga Hook" caused by the great Gerrymander Congressman Bill Huizenga and Betsy DeVos, who wanted private Holland Christian School in the 2nd District. 75 feet from my bedroom is the 6th Congressional District which is where I should be living. Allegan County is in the 6th District. The only reason I live in the 2nd District is because of Huizenga.
